Patti LuPone Is Huge Reason Why We Lack ‘Dissenting Views’
Broadway star bemoans loss of healthy debate, ignores her role in problem
Bill Maher is getting a lot of attention these days.
He didn’t rob a bank in broad daylight or make that Snake River jump that Evel Knievel couldn’t in 1974.
Maher is willing to break bread with those who don’t align with his worldview. That’s it. That’s enough.
That simple approach today is novel, even revolutionary.
Broadway superstar Patti LuPone is sad about the lack of civil discussion in society. The progressive actress told fellow Broadway star George Clooney just that in their expansive Variety chat.
What I don’t understand about all of this in this country is that we can’t seem to have dissenting views. You’re labeled a communist. You’re labeled a fascist.
In a separate takeaway from their chat, the star bemoaned the lack of “dissenting views.”
“What I don’t understand about all of this in this country is we can’t seem to have a dialogue, a diverse dialogue or a dissenting views dialogue.”
She’s right. We just saw comic legend Larry David call Maher Hitler for daring to disagree with him. Yet LuPone is blind to the problem on two fronts.
One: She’s part of it.
In 2018, she launched a vile attack on a huge swath of U.S. citizens. Their crime? Disagreeing with her worldview:
“The Christian right in America is no different from al-Qaida. Print that, because someone needs to say it out loud!”
(Did they really?)
A year later, she suggested the neighbor who nearly killed Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) in 2017 had the right idea. She wasn’t alone with those views.

Plus, LuPone tried to “out” Sen. Linsdey Graham (R-S.C.) against his wishes. The unmarried Senator’s private life is his business.
Forcing him to reveal his sexuality is bullying, period. And she did it because he’s a Republican.
Two: Her fellow progressives helped make our lack of civil discourse possible.
It’s no accident that a liberal like David would try to “cancel” Maher for having dinner with a sitting president from the “wrong” party. The Left powered Cancel Culture for years, punishing those who held “problematic” reviews and ensuring their professional repercussions.
Who deemed author J.K. Rowling history’s greatest monster after she questioned parts of the trans ideology in 2020? The Left … or the Right? It didn’t matter that Rowling adhered to most progressive principles.
Closer to LuPone’s home, the entertainment community embraced woke guard rails and failed to stand up for free speech and expression. Both cratered in recent years.
LuPone’s peers also kept conservative talent out of the industry whenever possible. The conservative Hollywood Blacklist is all too real, and the evidence is overwhelming.
It’s hard to have a civil exchange \when sharing the “wrong” view could crush your career.
LuPone could find the source of the problem in a New York Minute if she really tried. Find the nearest mirror and take a long, hard look.
Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the corporate press. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.
Toto advertises as a conservative and a Christian but his casual use of terms like “homophobia”, accepting the sexual alphabet community’s framing of the issue is so commonplace, it’s painfully obvious he’s been co-opted by their crusade. I remember the glowing review he gave Billy Eichner’s attempt at mainstreaming gay porn a few years ago. Sad.
Everyone acts like this is new. It is as old as the Republican Party (1850s). Look up Charles Sumner. Democrats and Liberals have always been and always will be Anti-American, Pro-Dictatorship, and inherently violent when they don’t get their way. Individually, many are charming, caring, kind people, but their politics is as vitriolic as it is ignorant and devoid of any kind of logical thinking. Liberalism is a form of mental retardation, arrested development.
They are getting scared since the Hollywood gravy train is starting to fall apart. They can’t survive on making content for “the modern audience” since it doesn’t exist. They are realizing that conservatives buy shoes too. But it may be too late, at least for most of them.
This is why kings and emperors in the past had a court jester: someone who could use humor to tell them to their face that they were wrong, and not get their heads whacked off for it. I nominate Maher to be Trump’s court jester. He’d be a good one -and I mean that as a compliment.
I have come to the unshakeable conclusion that liberals hate us.
But …. but …. but …. liberals are The Love People ™!
They indeed do hate conservatives…and now actually anyone who is ‘right’ of their ideology.
And they are more and more favoring extermination as a means of ‘peacefully coexisting’ than learning to reason, debate, and finding common ground.
With that in mind, we have to prevent them from winning the culture, political and social war…because we already know what that world looks like (i.e. Stalin, Mao and more recently Maduro and Castro (father + son).
They hate America and Liberty.
Name calling and Cancel Culture is the Left’s arsenal of silencing dissent. She’s only concerned that Trump turned the Left’s arsenal on themselves. Patti LuPone does exactly what she’s against now that the shoe is on the other foot. She even starred in a Broadway show where the Perons are described as dictators when they are a far left democracy that panders to the working class. How ironic.
The al-Qaida comment is not just ignorant, it’s repulsive. But being part of the “Christian right”, I would forgive her if she would be willing to apologize for it. I don’t think al-Qaida is the forgiving kind.
