Kevin Sorbo Schools Whoopi: I’m Proof of New Hollywood Blacklist

Conservative star shares how industry punished him for having 'wrong' views

Whoopi Goldberg attempted to fact check “Chuck” alum Zachary Levi on “The View” this week.

Let’s hope the “Sister Act” alum doesn’t give up her day job.

Levi, speaking at a Reclaim America event in Michigan, said coming out as a Donald Trump supporter could be “career suicide.” Goldberg used her “View” perch to allegedly set him straight.

“From the beginning of Hollywood, it’s always been a very right-leaning town, but I know you don’t know much about the Hollywood history, so let me school you…

“We are, like America is, we’re a mixed bunch. And sometime it may seem like there’s more Democrats and sometimes it seems like there’s more Republicans. But the truth of the matter is, very few people seem to bite it because they’re Republican.”

Levi’s claim, she said, is “more b.s.” The media ran with Goldberg’s framing, suggesting she had “schooled” Levi on the subject.

Kevin Sorbo would like a word with Goldberg.

“Of course being conservative in Hollywood and openly talking about it can get you blacklisted. I am a perfect example of that. My manager and agent said my politics and posts on social media put me at the back of the bus with studios,” Sorbo exclusively told HiT.

Sorbo didn’t quit acting after the industry cast him aside. He formed SorboStudios.com and began making faith-friendly, uplifting movies on his terms. Think “Let There Be Light” and “Miracle in East Texas.”

Sorbo says he’s far from alone.

“Every movie I have shot over the last 7 years I get at least one person, be it an actor or someone behind the camera, telling me they are thankful for me being a voice for them [as a conservative]. I tell them to be their own voice, but they fear what happened to me will happen to them.”

Sorbo’s punishment for having the “wrong” political views extends beyond Hollywood, he says.

“I am even banned from Comic Cons now from the people who run them openly telling my agent they don’t like my politics. They scream for socialism yet make their money in a capitalist business. You gotta love their hypocrisy,” he said.

The extensive proof of the new Hollywood Blacklist shreds Goldberg’s assessment. Yes, a few actors have kept working despite being openly conservative. Think of older, established stars like Jon Voight, Tim Allen and Kelsey Grammer.

Many others keep their views to themselves for fear of retribution. They once met in secret under the Friends of Abe banner. Attendees would break down in tears, according to two sources who spoke to HiT, while describing the industry backlash they faced for leaning Right.

It’s an open secret in Hollywood media circles. The Hollywood Reporter just suggested liberal actress Cheryl Hines could be “shunned” by Hollywood.

Why? She supports her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who now supports Trump.

Media outlets know, on some level, that being an openly conservative actor can hurt one’s career. Or, in the case of Oscar-nominee James Woods, essentially end it. He hasn’t had a major role since 2014’s “Jamesy Boy.”

Woods even agreed to hide his connection to “Oppenheimer” (he co-produced the film) to protect the film’s Oscar chances.

Goldberg is either lying or ignorant of Hollywood in the 21st century. What’s the corporate media’s excuse?

  1. By the way, Sorbo has said multiple times that he wasn’t blacklisted by Hollywood, but rather chose to leave himself because, in his own words, “they’re all pedos.” So which is it? He keeps flip-flopping.

  2. If you don’t think women should be able to make their own reproductive choices, then most A-list actresses won’t want to work with you. Simple as that. But if you’re a conservative and you aren’t staunchly pro-life(like Eastwood and others), then you can continue to have a good career.

  3. As an outsider, seems like Sorbo was “trouble” because he decided to hit people over the head with his views. His religion, his political views, were absolute and the only true paths. Seems to me that if he had voiced his views as part of a conversation rather than “my way or the highway,” he might have fared better. He IS a good actor. Maybe not great, but sometimes very good. I suspect it was his attitude, rather than his views, that used his problems.

    1. Dianna – appreciate your perspective, but many MANY liberal celebrities are far more aggressive with their political views than Sorbo. Consider Rob Reiner and Robert De Niro as two huge examples. They’re never punished for their activism (nor should they be).

  4. If this criticism had been leveled by James Woods instead of Sorbo, WHAM! It woulda hurt a lot worse. “Hollywood, from the beginning, has been right-leaning…” What?? The opposite is the truth, from the early days of Hollywood they were putting out one movie after another that sympathized HEAVILY with COMMUNISM. Whoopi doesn’t know what she’s talking about.

  5. About 10 years ago a radio station I worked at was working with the local comic con and one of the sales people went to the airport to pick Kevin Sorbo up. The sedan was a new loner from a local dealership so they could say when they sold it that he had rode in it. He complained the whole time about it not being a nice enough car. The first day of the comic con he was late and complained about the size of the event. Granted it was a small venue but the voice actor from the cartoon Jem and the holograms and the actor that played Eddie Munster were there and they were wonderful and for all appearances were happy to be there. He ended up throwing a fit and leaving early that day and then not showing up for the next day. I personally paid $50 bucks for a picture with him that I would have trashed if it hadn’t been for my daughter telling me that when they snapped the photo he stood on his tippy toes to make himself look taller. I’m guessing that maybe his issue is he is a jerk.

  6. Gina Carano was cancelled and blacklisted simply for questioning the effectiveness of face diapers and the mRNA clot shots

  7. Is no one going to mention it here that Kevin Sorbo just isn’t a good actor.. I mean what is his big claim to fame ? A C level TV show? Him and Scott Baio can run to Fox news to complain but if they were really quality actors it wouldn’t matter which way their politics lean. Have you ever thought that maybe they are screaming about this blacklist to get attention to their dying careers. Just look at Rob Schneider. This is the new career path for bad actors. Go to the right and get cheerleading from the “Oh me” crowd.

    1. Yea, one can say Sorbo isn’t a great actor. Baio either. I wouldn’t disagree with that. However…you’d have more ammo for their acting ability being the only thing that matters if there weren’t so many even worse actors/actresses getting work in Hollywood who ARE left-leaning. Take Lena Dunham for instance. Couldn’t act her way out of a paper bag but she’s very vocal about supporting abortion and other left-leaning causes and she’s held up as a darling of Hollywood. Kumail Nanjiani would be another example. Left as he can be, and he doesn’t act, he just plays himself in every role he gets. Baio and Sorbo might not be the best actors ever, but both are better than Dunham and Nanjiani (among others) and yet Hollywood loves the other two but not Sorbo and Baio.
      .
Also, the other thing that makes your argument not hold water is that you have an actor Oscar nominated actor like James Woods who’s very outspoken about his right-leaning politics and he barely gets any work anymore. And it’s not because he’s washed up.

    2. That was my first thought. Just looking to be a victim so typical. Kevin you are not the only non-working actor out there and you can bet there are many that have more talent then you!

      1. It’s not about talent. Sorbo worked steadily in Hollywood for many years. The industry clearly felt he had something to offer. Suddenly, the roles dried up and his agent left him high and dry. Said agent specified his political views were to blame. And, of course, he’s far from alone. Just search ‘blacklist’ on this web site and you’ll see many more examples. We should all be horrified by actors being punished for their political views. It’s unAmerican.

  8. Obviously you know nothing of the Hollywood 10. A REAL WRITTEN BLACKLIST. Dalton Trumbo and all the writers and actors who were denied work of ANY kind. Sorbo admits to work. All because the far right not left

    1. Sorbo made his own studio to create work for himself. The ’50s era Blacklist was different in many ways, but discriminating against actors for their political views was wrong then and it’s wrong now. Do you disagree?

      1. I disagree because communism and communists bring hell to any regular human subjected to it and them. It used to be fighting communism was a good thing, something to be proud of. Now we have a bunch of dummies supporting a bunch of powerful evil scum.

    2. Not sure if you are aware, but Dalton Trumbo happened 70 years ago. I posit to you that there is some small chance that the Hollywood of today might be politically different from the Hollywood of the ’40s and ’50s. Also, part of the problem with Hollywood in the the 40s and 50s is we know, based on recovered KGB documents, that the Soviets were spending significant amounts of money attempting to influencing artists, directors and studios of the time.

    3. The Hollywood Blacklist of Commies, suspected commies, and sympathizers was made and enforced by LEFT leaning people in H’wood to cover their own actions and backsides. The right leaning sorts were often the ones to “rehabilitate” those on the list. Ed Sullivan told Orson Bean “I can’t do anything right now, but wait a bit and I’ll see what I can do.” and later got him back into working. My uncle was also listed (also was pretty much a commie), and moved to France to teach, until getting work from Charles Shultz. All because the “far left” not right.

  9. Goldberg is an idiot, or just acting like one. I wonder if she really believes any of this. She’s like a living click-bait article. I’m wondering if the whole show is scripted since they seem to just work for the democrat party now like most of media.

Maybe I wasn’t paying that much attention, but when she had a movie and TV career, I don’t remember her being so political.

    1. Honestly Reb I wouldn’t have known Zach Levi was voting for Trump if he had not said he was probably not going to work in Hollywood because he was mega. He put the spotlight on himself.

  10. “From the beginning, Hollywood has always been a very right-leaning town.”
Did I get abducted by aliens and taken to another planet where there is also a town called Hollywood?”

      1. Sounds like you’re more concerned about a blacklist last century than a blacklist this century…..as long as the current blacklist isn’t written down. Do I have that right?

One of the fun parts of California law is you can’t be fired because you’re gay or trans but you can be if the boss doesn’t like your politics. The Democrats run California so why aren’t they changing the law to prevent blacklists? Maybe because they’re the perpetrators these days?

      2. Those Blacklisted back then were actual Soviet sympathizers, no better than Nazi sympathizers (who were also, appropriately, blacklisted)

      3. A blacklist from the Hoover admin? Be serious. How would Whoopi even know anything, she isn’t even a D lister.
