It’s Bill Maher vs. Jon Stewart for Democrats’ Soul
Dueling late-night hosts reveal gap between DSA and old-school values

Bill Maher sounds more like Rush Limbaugh with every new “Real Time” broadcast.
The liberal pundit has turned his HBO showcase into a treatise on everything wrong with today’s Democratic Party.
The problem? “Real Time with Bill Maher” only has 60 minutes to spare in any given week.
Meanwhile, “The Daily Show’s” Jon Stewart makes excuses for his party’s extremes. Graham Platner? Stewart likes the cut of his jib.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani? Why, his brand of socialism just might work (this time). Never mind Mamdani’s toxic ties to antisemites, or his wife’s shocking views on Oct. 7.

Nothing to see here, folks. Move along (and vote Democrat!)
The contrast between the two late-night legends is clear. So are the stakes. These high-profile comics are battling to shape the Democratic Party to their liking.
Maher has facts and reason on his side. Stewart makes do with socialist smoke and mirrors, thanks to an ideology with a sky-high death count and an inability to do basic math.
.@benshapiro responds to leftists (like Jon Stewart) who are desperately trying to whitewash Mamdani’s communist-adjacent policies:
“Watching Stewart try to convince himself in real time that FDR and Mamdani are exactly the same is WILD.”

Let’s be clear. Maher isn’t happy about his current status as a Democratic fixer. He hasn’t changed, he contends. His party did.
Boy, did they ever. And it’s impossible to disagree. Do a quick Google search to see where prominent Democrats stood on issues like immigration, voting rights and the border just a few short years ago.
Sen. Mitch McConnell who’s HEAVILY opposing the SAVE Act, is the SAME Mitch McConnell who in 2002, literally ARGUED with Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer over NEEDING to show PROOF of citizenship/Voter ID to vote in our elections.

Then consider how many Democrats crave open border policies, a defunded police network and a prison-free America.
Day and night barely describes the change. Plus, Maher has no patience for the woke silliness propped up by modern progressives.
Today’s DSA darlings can’t even pretend to like all-American holidays like Thanksgiving.
Bill Maher ERUPTS on Francesca Hong’s claim that she never wanted to cancel Thanksgiving. “I DON’T BELIEVE YOU! …
You meant it… she hates all holidays.”

Maher has been teeing off on woke overkill for years, putting him virtually alone on his side of the aisle. Former “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert chuckled when Cancel Culture came for Dr. Seuss.
Maher likely didn’t find that funny.
Now, he’s doubling and tripling down on his party’s excesses. He recently blasted Democrats for playing footsie with antisemitism, reminding them in stark terms how morally warped such a position is.
He dares to invite conservatives on both his HBO showcase and weekly “Club Random” podcast, listening to their arguments with an open mind. He even said Vice President J.D. Vance might have his vote if Democrats march down the socialist road.

And then there’s Stewart.
He hasn’t been the same since he returned to Comedy Central two ago. Stewart 1.0 was obviously on the Left, but he delivered Fake News with a dollop of bipartisan fury.
That Stewart stayed retired, apparently.
The new version apologizes for the color of his old writing staff, throws softballs to candidates with Nazi tattoos and, when he tells an inconvenient truth, he backs off.
Remember how he suggested President Joe Biden might have lost something on his cognitive fastball and quickly dropped the subject during the 2024 election cycle?
More recently, Stewart chatted up Platner weeks before the Maine candidate’s political career officially imploded.
We didn’t know about the sexual assault allegations at the time, but Stewart knew Platner had kept a Nazi tattoo on his chest for roughly 18 years.
Need we remind people that Stewart is Jewish? That shouldn’t matter, but it makes his softball queries even more disgusting.
Stewart didn’t press him on the tattoo matter. Instead, he praised him as a “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” reboot in the flesh. We expect that kind of boot licking from MS NOW, not a faux journalist who often poses like the real deal.
That’s when he takes his clown nose off.

More recently, Stewart lobbed whiffle balls at Mamdani, ignoring his doomed government-run grocery store plans and a trail of disturbing connections that suggest something dark and destructive.
Antisemitism 101.
Stewart also dismisses evidence that the DSA Movement is overtaking traditional Democrats with a wave of his satirical mitt: He even defended Hasan Piker, a pundit with a list of monstrous quotes as long as Santa’s Naughty or Nice list.
“That young guy that’s a fiery preacher for economic populism and other things?” Stewart said recently.
Those other things include:
- “Left-wingers, liberals, you need to be f***ing showing your opponents’ guts on there, you need to be gutting them”.
- “You need to be shanking these motherf***ers and letting their f***ing intestines writhe on-stage… Slice them up. Slice ‘em and f***ing dice ’em.”
- “Kill [landlords]. Kill those motherf***ers. Murder those motherf***ers in the street. Let the streets soak in their f***ing red capitalist blood, dude.”
Fiery but mostly insane, no?
These aren’t JFK Democrats or even the Clinton variety. And Stewart has little to say about the extreme party makeover nor the violence overwhelming the progressive movement.
Maher is ready and able to call it out, and he likely has ulterior motives. He wants the Democratic vision to be triumphant at the voting booth. That can’t happen, Maher argues, with the current rise of radicalism on the Left.
Stewart just wants power.
Who will win? We’ll get some answers following the midterm election results. The real story will take place during the 2028 presidential campaign.
We may not know which comic’s vision will triumph, but we all lose if Stewart’s DNC reigns supreme.
