FARCE: Stephen Colbert Wins Anti-Censorship Award

Stephen Colbert didn’t have Dr. Seuss’ back when the children’s author needed him.

At the height of the woke panic, the Cancel Culture mob dubbed the beloved author’s work as racist. So the Dr. Seuss estate pulled several Seussian titles off the shelves.

You’d think a comedian who traffics in satire and free speech might recoil at the move. Stephen Colbert did the opposite.

“The Late Show” host chuckled over the censorship, essentially giving it his stamp of approval. Yet that same Colbert just earned an “anti-censorship” award from the 47th annual American Book Awards.

The group behind the honor? The Before Columbus Foundation, which the far-Left Associated Press dubs a body that “champions diversity in U.S. literature and culture.”

Did the Foundation cry foul when famous authors’ works were censored by “sensitivity readers?” We know Colbert said nothing as passages written by Ian Fleming, Agatha Christie and Roald Dahl got the heave-ho for being “problematic.”

Then again, Colbert has been whisper-silent about Cancel Culture, the Twitter Files and other outrageous examples of modern-day censorship. He also promoted Dr. Anthony Fauci, who we’ve learned in recent days did all he could to censor those who disagreed with his pandemic protocols.

Colbert wasn’t alone, of course. The modern Left either cheered on or ignored censorship in recent years. More examples?

That’s just a partial list.

It’s embarrassing enough that Colbert never used his platform to support free speech. It’s galling to see an organization honor him for not doing the minimal work to defend free expression.
