The HiT List: Hollywood’s Terror Response

The show’s planned musical number during Sunday night’s Tony Awards presentation went off as planned. Only for this special appearance the actors ditched the muskets typically brandished on stage.

It was just a small part of Hollywood’s terror response following the massacre which claimed the lives of 50 people. Many stars slammed the NRA in the hours after the shooting.

  • ‘Sunny’ Protest: The cast of FX’s ribald comedy “It’s Always Funny in Philadelphia” gathered to attend the LA Pride festival to show support to the gay community following the Orlando massacre. Co-star Danny DeVito used the occasion to call for more gun control.
  • First Things First: Tony Awards host James Corden immediately addressed the Orlando attack at the start of the show’s telecast. “Your tragedy is our tragedy,” the “Late Late Show” host said.
  • The “S” Stands for Scared: Action star Jackie Chan says a rising Chinese film industry is “scaring” U.S. citizens and proving a global boon for China. “If we can make a film that earns 10 billion [$1.5 billion], then people from all over the world who study film will learn Chinese, instead of us learning English,” he said.
  • Corrective Surgery for Right Wingers? – Singer Donald Fagen of Steely Dan fame says conservatives suffer from “an enlargement of the amygdala … which makes them “aggressive.” He hopes future corrective surgery can help.
  • What Took So Long? Bill Murray will be the next recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for Humor.
  • Yes, the Warrens Will Return: “The Conjuring 2″ crushed the box office over the weekend, all but guaranteeing more tales from Hollywood’s favorite demonologists, Lorraine and Ed Warren.
