New ‘Purge’ Trailer Trashes Christians and … Trump?

The first two films in the series took shots at the Tea Party and the NRA. Now, it appears the franchise is expanding its target list to include Christians.

“The Purge: Election Year” picks up where the franchise left off last year. An attractive Senator, played by Elizabeth Mitchell, wants to end the Purge once and for all. But the evil, seemingly all white, power brokers won’t let the Purge die without a fight.

The Purge: Election Year - Official Trailer (HD)

For the uninitiated, the annual Purge allows all crimes, even murder, to be legal for 12 hours on a single, blood-soaked day. It’s meant to purge society of its evil impulses, and on a practical level the ritual works. Crime goes down, and the economy gets a boost from every purge.

Mitchell’s character wants it to stop it from every happening again.

“The Purge targets the poor and the innocent,” the Senator says, almost like a Bernie Sanders’ stump speech. Enter the pro-Purge crowd. They don’t mind the less fortunate getting slaughtered if it means their fancy lives can continue.

The twist in the just-released trailer happens in the waning seconds. We see a pro-Purge contingent in a church extolling the virtues of the practice. Bloodthirsty hardly begins to describe it.

That isn’t the only message in the trailer. Consider the slogan that flashes across the screen. Keep. America. Great.

Sound familiar? It’s not much different from GOP frontrunner Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” mantra.

“The Purge: Election Year” hits theaters July 1.

  1. The Purge films are every bit as idiotic as the most empty-headed action film franchises, but are made even worse by their insufferable pretentiousness and pandering to the far left. The makers of the films don’t seem to realize that the type of lawless, mindless mob behavior they depict is much more applicable to the actions of the Occupy and BLM crowd than the easy punching bag of the Tea Party.
