Battle Stations! Late Night Rushes to Save Hillary

Of course not. Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, Samantha Bee and Trevor Noah have downplayed it up until now.

Friday’s revelation that the FBI was re-opening the case surely would change their tunes, though.

Right?

Not even close.

The host of “Late Night with Seth Meyers” used his “Closer Look” sketch to protect Clinton from any more damage. Rather than be aghast at her decisions, which threatened the nation’s security as well as her party’s presidential hopes, Meyers slammed the media for paying so much attention to it.

Meyers also attacked FBI director James Comey for the investigation. He failed to blame the person who sparked it, of course.

Pure, unabashed propaganda.

To be fair, Meyers attacked Democrats for their flip flop on Comey. First, they loved him after he cleared Clinton on the original email scandal. Now, he’s the devil incarnate, they claim.

Of course, when Donald Trump said Clinton’s email scandal was “bigger than Watergate,” Meyers attacked … Trump. As far as we know, Trump didn’t threaten national security.

Then Meyers said, “the FBI doesn’t see this as a game changer,” which was pure speculation and hardly the consensus on the matter. Then the host attacked media pundits for suggesting the information might be devastating to Clinton.

He even pre-scorched the GOP for four years of political dysfunction assuming they investigate all of Clinton’s scandals.

Remember, it’s the Republicans’ fault, not Clinton’s.

Because, after all, the “Late Night” is now an extension of the Hillary 2016 campaign. Then again, so is Colbert’s “The Late Show.”

Colbert began by calling Comey “spooky,” adding he re-animated the corpse of the Clinton email scandal.

Anthony Weiner's Penis Might Destroy Two Political Careers

“Anthony Weiner’s penis might destroy two political careers,” he joked.

Colbert couldn’t really muster any outrage over Clinton’s shady dealings. He danced around the issue, never mocking or attacking the Democrat for putting the party in jeopardy.

Later, he segued smoothly to GOP bashing. He mocked Trump and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie with the usual assault memes. Because, after all, when the entire news cycle is about Clinton’s disastrous week … that means it’s time to focus on the other party.

Colbert even said the Republican party “was history,” a non-joke which caused his liberal audience to cheer like he was Ringo Starr during the peak of Beatlemania. Feasting on the cheers, he delicately blew the GOP a goodbye kiss, ignoring how the Clinton scandal might just hand the White House to that “history” party.

Not to be outdone, liberal comic John Oliver threw his comic support behind Clinton via HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.”

The Sunday broadcast found Oliver calling the fresh news a “sh**y development.” Would he say the same about any October surprise catching Trump flat-footed?

No need to answer that.

Oliver then blamed Anthony Weiner for putting Clinton’s White House dreams in “serious danger.” Wouldn’t the blame fall on … Clinton herself? Did Weiner set up that private server? Did he smash computers or wipe hard drives “with a cloth?”

He’s guilty of a lot of unsavory acts, but not that.

Oliver then cherry-picked news snippets forecasting there’s nothing damaging to be found in the newly discovered emails.

Damage control … done.

So how did Bee react to Clinton’s awful week? Did she spin the bad news? Turn the blame toward others in her party? Shame Comey for dropping the news so close to the election?

Bee simply ignored the biggest news item of the month. Maybe the year, if it truly tips the election.

Instead, she focused her latest episode of “Full Frontal” on a softball Q&A with President Barack Obama and an attack on the “Alt-Right.”

Noah also covered his eyes and ears over the renewed scandal over at “The Daily Show.” Instead, he dreamed up an extended sketch looking into the disastrous fourth year of President Trump’s first term.

Now, for some perspective about Clinton’s current scandal update, consider this summation paragraph from The Daily Mail:

The extent to which Hillary Clinton’s key advisers are now the focus of major FBI investigations is becoming clear. The Clintons’ long-term inner-circle – some of whom stretch back in service to the very first days of Bill’s White House – are being examined in at least five separate investigations. The scale of the FBI’s interest in some of America’s most powerful political fixers – one of them a sitting governor – underlines just how difficult it will be for Clinton to shake off the taint of scandal if she enters the White House. There are, in fact, not one but five separate FBI investigations which involve members of Clinton’s inner circle or their closest relatives – the people at the center of what has come to be known as Clintonworld.

Truth to power on the late night landscape? It’s in very short supply these days.

  1. On behalf of all of Canada, I wish to apologize for Samantha Bee. Sadly, this country pops out unfunny leftist comics like a rabbit on Clomiphene.
