Ben Stiller Says Dumbest Thing Possible About Trump
'Tropic Thunder' star's take on censorship ignores decade of woke overkill
Ben Stiller could have singlehandedly made Cancel Culture worse.
Stiller’s 2008 gem “Tropic Thunder” not only pushed the envelope on big-screen comedy, it also featured a character donning blackface for large portions of the film.
That was Robert Downey, Jr., who earned an Oscar nomination for playing a vain actor willing to do anything to win an Oscar, even darken his skin to portray a black person.
“Tropic Thunder” couldn’t be made today, of course. That’s thanks to the modern Left, the woke mob and its Cancel Culture cousins. Yet Stiller has refused to condemn his own movie.
No “hostage”-style apologies. No public regrets for sharing complicated humor.
“I make no apologies for Tropic Thunder. Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since … we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it.”
Phew.
Many Comic Stars Bent the Knee to Woke Mob
Sound easy? In recent years, plenty of comedians have thrown their previous work under the bus, including Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill and Tina Fey. Others have apologized for 20-year-old bits or jokes that are now dubbed problematic.
Stiller refused. And we all know why that matters.
Comedy was under serial assault over the past decade. The 2015 film “Can We Take a Joke?” unofficially captured the dawn of the Cancel Culture era.
We all know what happened next.
- Comedians self-censored for fear of cancellation
- Dave Chappelle got attacked on stage following his trans jokes
- Bawdy, R-rated comedies all but disappeared
- Big-screen comedies in general took a huge step back
- Clubs canceled comedians for past inflammatory gags
That’s but a partial list. Find more at “Virtue Bombs: How Hollywood Got Woke and Lost Its Soul.”
End of plug.
Now, Stiller is suggesting comedy is under assault in the Trump era via a Radio Times interview. Really.
Really.
“We live in a world where taking chances with comedy is more challenging. You’re seeing that front and center in our country,” he said.“But I think it’s important that comedians keep doing what they’re doing, speaking truth to power and being free to say what they want. That’s the most important thing.”
The far-Left Deadline cites Jimmy Kimmel’s recent, one-week suspension as proof of the new chill on comedy. There’s no evidence that President Donald Trump forced ABC to suspend Kimmel for maliciously suggesting a MAGA supporter assassinated Charlie Kirk, not a far-Left radical.
No Fear from Former ‘Man Show’ Cutup
Kimmel is back on the air and has doubled down on his laugh-free Trump attacks.

Clearly, Kimmel isn’t bowed by any Trump-led forces restricting comedy.
Worst. Dictator. Ever.
Nor is “Saturday Night Live” afraid of a Trumpian response. The show returned with new episodes earlier this month and continued its relentless Trump attacks, once again ignoring Democrats who behave badly. Instead, the show is attempting to make socialist Zohran Mamdani the next Big Apple mayor.
And “South Park,” once a bastion of fair and balanced comedy, just signed a $1.5 billion deal with Paramount. The show’s recent episodes have skewered Trump World without hitting back at progressive targets.
Some chill.
The same Stiller interview reveals that some have pressured him to digitally remove Trump from his 2001 hit comedy “Zoolander.” He refused, without either he or Deadline acknowledging that such pressure is coming from the Left, not any MAGA movement.
Stiller remains one of our most complicated and talented stars. Writing. Directing. Performing. His body of work speaks for itself.
Wouldn’t it be nice if he put the partisan games aside and called out the real comedy killers? Hint: It’s not President Trump. It’s his fellow liberals.
Actor Ben Stiller says he “wishes” he was Black on a call for Kamala Harris for president.
“I wish I was Black. Every White Jewish guy wishes he was Black.”
