LOL: Variety Says Jimmy Kimmel Isn’t ‘Movement Liberal’

Variety magazine has operated as ABC’s de facto PR arm since Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension.

The overall coverage of Kimmel’s week-long time-out, one that ends tonight, suggests the far-Left outlet is cheering him on. And it’s not alone.

That culminated with one of Variety’s sillier stories in recent memory:

It’s laughable on several levels, but the biggest howler is buried deep in the piece. The lede sets the fawning tone, one even an ABC flack wouldn’t dare pitch.

Jimmy Kimmel’s return to his talk show on Tuesday night promises to be one of the most massive television moments of the decade.

Never mind the Charlie Kirk memorial, viewed by a reported 20 million people on streaming and cable outlets. 

From there, it gets worse. First, a straight-up lie:

…a show that became the object of conservative ire and FCC threats after a series of jokes [emphasis added] last week pertaining to the aftermath of the assassination of Charlie Kirk

The line in question that got Kimmel suspended wasn’t a joke, nor was it “a series of jokes.” It was one bald-faced lie.

“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Next, another Variety misdirection:

“Kimmel is not, at his core, a political comedian…”

He wasn’t for much of his career, which included time co-hosting the anti-woke “Man Show.” It’s exactly what he is now. Why else would a small army of Democratic politicians decry his suspension?

Remember how Kimmel hosted a President Joe Biden fundraiser last year?

Finally, Variety offers something that’s funnier than whatever Kimmel will uncork during his return monologue tonight.

Some segment of the viewing public who might generally disapprove of perceived disrespect to the Kirk story might also be willing to give the benefit of the doubt to a host who does not present as a movement liberal [emphasis added] and who speaks about politics a bit like any old person.

Yes, the man who spends every show eviscerating all things GOP, ignored President Joe Biden’s dementia-like condition and played pussyfoot with Hunter Biden and Cassidy Hutchinson isn’t a “movement liberal.”

This isn’t the Daily Kos or some fly-by-night blog. This is … Variety.

And, to preserve Kimmel’s career and reputation, the venerable outlet decided to mislead at every step.

Now, ask yourself, “Why?”
