Tom Jones: Don’t Stop Singing ‘Delilah’ (I Won’t)

Tom Jones knows how Jason Aldean feels this week.

Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” got banned by CMT and slaughtered by the mainstream media for criticizing the violent, BLM-style protests of the last three-plus years. The track doesn’t mention race, but biased media outlets dubbed it pro-lynching.

It’s a woke assault on a song, full stop. Why is it “woke?”

Many songs proudly embrace violence without so much as a whisper from the woke brigade. Songs are creative platforms where artists can imagine what it’s like to be in a stranger’s shoes, be it a poet, a lover or a violent soul.

Aldean’s song disputes the far-Left’s narrative on protests – like the “mostly peaceful” lie pushed by corrupt journalists in recent years.

So it must be punished.

Jones felt the woke mob’s wrath earlier this year when the Welsh Rugby Union officially demanded the singer’s Delilah be banned from the choir’s song list. The song has been soft-banned for several years prior.

Why?

The lyrics feature a spurned lover killing his partner, and that kind of domestic violence cannot be tolerated. Even if it’s fake and simply fuel for a song that has captivated audiences for nearly 55 years.

Jones didn’t shoot a man in Reno just to watch him die, a la Johnny Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”

Aldean isn’t backing down after the Cancel Culture mob descended on him, but the punitive part of its attack isn’t over yet. The far Left is trying to cancel his upcoming appearance at the Grand Old Opry to raise money for families impacted by a school shooting.

Now, Jones is speaking out on behalf of his cherished song.

“You can’t stop us singing Delilah.

“Can you imagine… Who was the man who didn’t want us to sing Delilah?

“And we will keep singing it too.”

Cancel Culture is an attack on free expression. It’s applied inconsistently and is often used as a political cudgel against anyone questioning far-Left groupthink.

In the case of “Delilah,” Cancel Culture asserts itself as virtue signaling, attempting to address a real-world problem in a way that makes no sense and will have zero impact on the issue in question.
