Oscar Nominees Politicize Reaction Statements
Does anyone think next month’s Academy Awards telecast won’t be a 3-plus hour assault on President Donald Trump?
Those doubts likely vanished today as the Oscar nomination were announced. No, the team announcing the honorees didn’t break out any pink wool hats. Instead, just check out how many of the nominated stars reacted to being chosen.
None mentioned Trump by name. It’s impossible to miss the messages they were sending about the country’s new president, though.
Michael Shannon, “Nocturnal Animals” – Nominee, Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role – Academy Awards: “I am thrilled! Loved making this film. I would work with Tom Ford anytime, anywhere. Jake Gyllenhaal and Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Karl Glusman made it easy for me. Nice to get some good news in the midst of all the carnage, so to speak.
Adele Romanski, Jeremy Kleiner & Dede Gardner, “Moonlight” – Nominee, Best Picture: “Thanks to the Academy for recognizing Barry and Tarell’s story. We are honored to have been a part of bringing their voices to the screen. MOONLIGHT is a movie we need now more than ever – celebrating the beauty, complexity and humanity of others. Congratulations to all of our fellow nominees for their brilliant work.”
Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight” – Nominee, Best Director: “It takes a village and this morning I was moved beyond words by the love that was shown by the Academy to so many of the wonderful people in our Moonlight village. I’m in Amsterdam at the moment, sharing Chiron’s story a continent away with people of a different culture. That’s what the spirit of these nominations signals to me: an affirmation that film has the power to erode barriers and reveal what makes us all human.”
Naomie Harris, “Moonlight” – Nominee, Best Supporting Actress: “Moonlight” is touching many hearts at a time when people are seeking compassion and connection in the world. I am incredibly grateful to the Academy for recognizing my part of this story as well as my fellow “Moonlight” family. It has truly been an honor to share Barry Jenkins’ and Tarell McCraney’s beautiful journey”
Viggo Mortensen, “Captain Fantastic” – Nominee, Best Actor: “I’m thrilled that Captain Fantastic has been included among this year’s Academy nominees! Our movie has heart and brains. It entertains, inspires, and encourages honest communication in equal measures. I’m extremely proud to represent Matt Ross’ extraordinary story. It is one of the finest collective efforts I’ve ever been a part of. Yes we can!”
Dev Patel, “Lion” – Nominee, Best Supporting Actor: “This film would be nothing without Garth Davis. Without his love, commitment and vision this Lion wouldn’t have been able to roar. To that extent I want to share this incredible feeling with Luke, Grieg, Jenny Kent, Iain, Angie, Emile, Sunny, Nicole, David, Rooney, Divian, Priyanka, the Brierley family as well as the Weinstein Co team. Lion reaffirms the message that love is not dictated by the color of your skin, not by race, gender, sexuality, social status, or origin. It is a message I am proud to be spreading during these uncertain times. This will forever be one of the most memorable experiences of my life. ”
I have not watched this trash in years.
They will get around to bashing president Trump but they will wait until they have a big audience. Don’t worry Racism will also have a starring role
Hollywood is stagnant place
Haven’t watched the Oscars since “Patton” won Best Film.
Haven’t missed anything in the interim. Haven’t been to a theater to see a film since Sin City .
Outside of the films being far more expensive and cost and experience prohibitive, crappy and lame, I see no reason to change now.
The left just ruins EVERYTHING!
Both when they get their way, through their insane commie policies, and when they don’t, they just burn everything in sight. It is a mental disorder.
TURN OFF TV THAT DAY CRUSH HOLYWRECK DESTROY THEM!!!!!!!!!
Got news for you: Even if your “BOYCOTT IT *ALL*” crusade were to succeed, you’d be hurting the good guys along with the bad–in fact, you’d be hurting them worse, as they need all the help they can get.
On the one hand, I’m ticked off that Amy Adams wasn’t even nominated for Best Actress, this year. On the other hand…”Hey, you know what, Princess? They don’t deserve you, this year.”
I’m more apt to roll my eyes at “love is not dictated by…sexuality,” etc., than “these uncertain times”.
