Bill Maher’s Self Own Is One for the Ages

Bill Maher is smarter than your average late-night host, but that isn’t saying much.

Colbert, Kimmel and company just parrot Democratic talking points, ignorant of the greater political scene. They don’t dare read stories from The Federalist or The Daily Wire lest their worldview be challenged.

Maher is different. He regularly reaches across the aisle, interviewing right-leaning guests like Jordan Peterson and Kid Rock who broaden his worldview.

And, gratefully, he’s starting to distrust the mainstream media.

Maher still has a lot to learn, alas, and he proved it during his chat with presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

The two gently sparred over some issues, like the candidate’s performance of “Lose Yourself” on the campaign trail.

Maher playfully called his guest a “kook” for wanting to shut down the FBI. He recoiled at Ramaswamy suggesting the comic lacked the necessary background to debate the issue. Maher quickly bragged about his political chops.

“I do this for a living … you know who I am. I’m up on political stuff,” Maher said.

The two battled briefly, with Ramaswamy suggesting the resources funneled to the FBI could be better diverted to U.S. Marshals, the DEA and related groups.

Maher defends the current FBI by recalling a “hypothetical” situation about an Australian diplomat who tipped off FBI members that Team Trump was colluding with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election.

The comedian’s example mirrored the dawn of the Russian collusion investigation, which cost the U.S. government millions, derailed both the country and the Trump administration and made huge swaths of the country believe a lie.

Including a certain talk show host.

“George Papadopolous was a little drunk one night, and he was telling him about how much the Trump campaign team was coordinating with the Russian government….We can argue the rest of the night what happened after that. Of course, they did, but should that not be investigated by the FBI? I don’t see how the U.S. Marshals or Texas Rangers are gonna handle that one,” Maher said.

Maher, who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome, still believes Trump colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 election … in August 2023.

After the Mueller Report and the Durham Report. After even Columbia Journalism Review wrote a massive story recalling how the media betrayed the public’s trust by swallowing the fraudulent Steele Dossier whole just to take down a GOP president.

Here’s the liberal USA Today summarizing some of Durham’s shocking revelations, information that wasn’t disputed in any significant way by the FBI. The headline says it all: Trump was right:

‘Russian collusion’ was a hoax. Good luck regaining public’s trust.

Durham also called out the role of the (now-discredited) Steele dossier, the opposition research gathered for the Hillary Clinton campaign that was in turn given to the FBI. Durham said the dossier was “unvetted and unverified,” yet was used as justification for surveillance.

“Indeed, based on the evidence gathered in multiple exhaustive and costly federal investigations of these matters, including the instant investigation, neither U.S. law enforcement nor the Intelligence Community appears to have possessed any actual evidence of collusion in their holdings at the commencement of the Crossfire Hurricane investigation,” the report stated.

The conservative Washington Examiner spelled it out more clearly.

With a painstaking examination of the evidence (1,753 footnotes!), Durham establishes conclusively that there was no basis for the FBI to have begun its Crossfire Hurricane investigation of ties between the Trump campaign and Russia in July 2016. The Bureau acted on “raw, unanalyzed and uncorroborated intelligence” and without checking with intelligence entities.

Ramaswamy, either being diplomatic or exhausted by the hoax, decided to take the high road.

“I’m gonna resist the temptation to go down the rabbit hole of debating something that’s a dead horse that we needn’t beat for what I believe was a deeply flawed Russian collusion narrative that went nowhere,” Ramaswamy said about the hoax.

Ramaswamy even noted that the Hillary Clinton campaign was involved with Russia … and Maher denied it, saying it paled compared to what Trump had done.

An FBI agent who worked on the Russian collusion investigation just pled guilty to his Russian oligarch ties.

You can’t make this stuff up.

Maher deserves plenty of credit for defending free speech, embracing conservative guests and savaging the woke mindset. Now, will someone whisper in his ear that he fell for the biggest media trick of the modern era?

Better yet, Maher can rewind the tape back to a 2021 “Real Time with Bill Maher” exchange when he seemed to admit the collusion story was, yes, a hoax.

The HBO star then shared his “theory” that Trump was “both an idiot and crazy” and that all of the former president’s rhetoric about Russia didn’t go any deeper as he and many liberals believed.

“We, like, thought that it had to be more of a conspiracy. It may turn out that most of it really was just what he did in public,” Maher continued. “Because it’s so insane that he was, ‘Russia, if you’re listening… ,’ and when he admitted he fired [FBI Director James] Comey, when I look back, I’m like ‘Wow, we lived through this?'”

Maher does know more about the current political scene than your average person. He still has some work to do on the matter.
