John Fogerty Pumps Brakes on Trump Derangement Syndrome

Classic rocker no MAGA voter, but his take on movement may surprise you

It’s not enough for celebrities to smite President Donald Trump over and again.

Too many target Trump voters directly.

  • Jason Bateman: Trump voters “need a talking to.”
  • Ethan Embry: MAGA types are “f***ing idiots”
  • Bryan Cranston: “What I now worry about is the sanity of anyone who can still support this deeply troubled man to lead our country.”

That’s just a sample. It’s why what one 1960s rocker just said comes as a shock.

John Fogerty’s music with Creedence Clearwater Revival remains beloved to generations of rock fans. Tracks like “Bad Moon Rising” and “Proud Mary” capped the Flower Power era and endure on everything from SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl channel to rock stations nationwide.

Now, Fogerty is back with “Legacy: The Creedence Clearwater Revival Years.”

The album boasts new versions of the group’s classic songs, letting the maestro revisit his collection. The singer/songwriter spoke to The Guardian about the release, and President Trump’s name inevitably came up.

Fogerty isn’t a fan, to be blunt, comparing the 47th president to President Richard M. Nixon. And that’s where the political anger ends.

“You know what my worldview must be. But I don’t hold fans responsible for the activities of Mr Trump. I wish everyone was a little bit more towards the middle. The older you get, you’re just sorry that everything’s so kneejerk.”

Some might say he’s being pragmatic. Chances are, more than a few CCR fans pulled the lever for Trump last Fall. Still, that hasn’t stopped many performers from slamming MAGA voters, even though it might cost them dearly.

If Stephen Colbert didn’t alienate so many right-leaning viewers, he might not be staring down a May 2026 cancellation.

Fogerty deserves credit for spreading a little peace and love, ’60s style.
