The Free Speech Fight That Kimmel, Legacy Media Ignore

Hollywood bravery isn’t gaining 30 pounds for an Oscar-bait film role.

Nor is it crying, “Free Palestine” in front of peers who couldn’t agree more with the sentiment.

True Tinsel Town courage is telling your boss, who happens to be one of the largest media companies on the planet, that you won’t stop sharing your common sense views on social media.

It’s exactly what Gina Carano did as her “Mandalorian” career reached new heights in 2021. The MMA star turned actress shared some social media posts that didn’t fit with the industry’s far-Left posture. She says Team Disney warned her to behave, going so far as to insist she endure a struggle session with far-Left Disney employees.

The Disney+ rising star refused.

And, when Disney fired her for sharing a plea for tolerance it farcically deemed hateful, she didn’t apologize or beg for forgiveness.

She stayed on her own two feet. Now, Carano is back.

She’ll square off against fellow MMA legend Ronda Rousey on Netflix Saturday night. Her comeback is on her own terms, and it arrives a year after she forced Disney to settle a lawsuit tied to her dismissal.

At its core, Carano’s fight was all about free speech. Yes, an employee can be fired for saying something horrific, like unleashing a racially-charged attack against a minority or wishing for a politician’s death.

Heck, Disney’s own Bette Midler has said far worse with zero repercussions.

Carano did nothing of the kind. She merely refused to go woke, and she paid a stiff price for it.

Yet you won’t find a single Legacy Media outlet defending her bravery or declaring her free speech martyr. You also won’t see Jimmy Kimmel, who chronically complains about his free speech being under attack by President Donald Trump, take her side.

He certainly won’t invite her on his “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” couch.

Why? 

Carano’s views are either right-leaning or simply not in line with the progressive playbook. That’s it. That’s also why singer M.I.A. got fired from a major music tour for sharing right-leaning views from the stage … and no Hollywood news outlet or major star defended her.

Kimmel didn’t rally to her side, either. Nor did any other late-night host, the folks who keep assembling to “defend” themselves against Herr Trump.

These free speech hypocrites won’t defend non-liberals when their speech is threatened.

This weekend belongs to Carano. And, even if she ends up losing to a tough opponent like Rousey, she’s already a winner.
