Why ‘SNL’ Won’t Touch Crazy Candace, Troubled Tucker

Neither Late-Night nor NBC sketch show will mock ex-conservative pundits

This weekend’s “Saturday Night Live” uncorked a sketch that left many viewers scratching their heads.

The clip poked fun at Variety’s “Actors on Actors” video series, an annual part of Oscar season. Movie buffs and entertainment reporters alike know about the interviews. Many viewers probably heard about it for the first time Saturday night.

Characters on Characters - SNL

The far-Left NBC show trotted it out all the same. It’ll pursue a topic even if it’s foreign to some in the audience.

Which brings us to Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens.

The former conservatives have all but declared war on the Right in recent months. Owens’ list of conspiracy theories is so long it’s hard to tally them all. Her biggest? Just about everyone save Tyler Robinson is connected to the Sept. 10 death of conservative icon Charlie Kirk.

Owens’ latest campaign is uncommonly cruel to those who knew and loved Kirk, including his widow Erika Kirk.

Owens was once so mainstream that she called The Daily Wire home. Today, she’s a caricature of a conservative pundit, going down rabbit hole after rabbit hole without making much sense.

In short, she’s a perfect person for “SNL” to parody. Almost too perfect. And, chances are, more people know about her downfall than any Variety showcase.

The same holds for Tucker Carlson. The former Fox News superstar’s rants, punctuated by a creepy, insistent giggle, have chased many far, far away. He relentlessly attacks the state of Israel, slams the GOP and defends the indefensible (like Sharia Law).

Both The Daily Wire and Fox News are breathing collective sighs of relief, no doubt.

Still, either Owens or Carlson is prime material for political satirists. Owens’ affinity for wacky conspiracies could lead in any number of directions. Carlson’s claim that a demon assaulted him in the middle of the night alone could make a killer sketch.

Yet “SNL” has yet to pounce and/or seize on either figure. Late-night comics, as cartoonishly progressive as “SNL” in the modern era, have also laid low on these oh, so ripe targets.

Why? It’s simple. Just ask Napoleon Bonaparte.

The French leader famously advised on the best approach when an enemy is suffering from self-inflicted wounds.

“Never interfere with an enemy in the process of destroying himself.”

The advice remains true to this day. Some suspect the MAGA movement is imploding, in part thanks to Owens and Carlson.

That explains why liberal comedians are missing comedy gold in front of their eyes. They see it, but they’d rather let MAGA collapse by itself.

Wait … aren’t they professional comedians first and foremost? Yes … and no.

Today’s progressive comics see themselves as part of The Resistance. It’s why the term “clapter” is on people’s lists in the modern era. The Narrative™ matters more than laughter, even though they are paid millions to make viewers smile.

“SNL” repeatedly attacks President Donald Trump for his alleged dementia after ignoring President Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline.

Need more proof?

Imagine a world where Jasmine Crockett exists and no one on “SNL” will go near her.

This also may explain why CBS was willing to lose millions per year on “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert before finally pulling the plug on the program earlier this year. They cared more about Colbert’s progressive messaging than their bottom line.

That is, until a mega company, Skydance, took a peek at the books.

One wonders if ABC is similarly losing millions by keeping “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on the air. The show has drawn lower ratings than “The Late Show” in recent years.

“SNL” could skewer either Owens, Carlson or both and make just about everyone howl – Left, Right and Center. That could hasten their collective declines, something that a viral comedy sketch can do without any coordinated campaign or fundraising measures.

Here’s betting “SNL” scribes and those on late-night TV payrolls would rather see Owens and Carlson continue to splinter the Right.

Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the corporate press. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.

  1. Candice and Carlson are not “right” wing, they are Soro’s funded leftist masquerading as right wing. They get all the Soro’s memos and are all about destroying Isreal and are all in on the final solution. Or as it’s called now the Palestinian problem. If the right had real journalists, they would follow the money and find out who are funding Candice’s and Carlson’s shows. But, I guess they are too busy hate watching SNL and Jimmy Kimmel. Why doesn’t the Daily Wire have a sketch show that skewers these people? Why doesn’t the Babylon Bee have a weekly sketch of Candice and Carlson’s Corner where the two blame every small thing on the Jews. Flat tire, the Jews did it. Trip on a crack, it was the Jews conspiring against you. I guess the right can’t do comedy either.

  2. snl/mainstream late night hosts are dnc operatives that don’t control their comedic instincts/agency. I wouldn’t expect their satirizing of Candice Carlson to be funny anyhow.
