‘The View’s’ Anti-Trump Hysteria, Explained

Joy Behar fears former President will do what's already happening in America

This may be the last few months for “The View,” according to co-host Joy Behar.

No, ABC isn’t ready to pull the plug on the intellectually-challenged show. The ratings appear strong enough to keep it alive, for now.

It’s something else.

A Donald Trump victory in November could spell the show’s demise. Or so Behar says.

Behar shared her concerns with guest Rachel Maddow, the MSNBC conspiracy monger who promoted the Russian collusion hoax more than most journalists.

“Some people think that sounds overdramatic but I’m right there with you. I think that he is so vindictive that he will go after, however he has to, whether it’s through the IRS maybe, or even through sponsors to get us off the air maybe or you. How seriously should we be taking that?”

Maddow’s response?

“Well, so I was asked am I worried about me and my answer was I’m worried about all of us. I’m no worried about me than I am worried about everybody in the country.”

It’s a master class in narcissism and projection.

The first is obvious. Imagine a president, even one with as thin a skin as Trump possesses, targeting a daytime talk show for termination. If Trump or any other leader truly embraced his authoritarian side they’d tackle dozens of targets before a TV show with so little importance.

It’s absurd, even ignoring that Trump’s presidency featured zero examples of media censorship of this sort. The Biden administration, on the other hand …

The fear speaks to Behar’s inflated sense of self, and that’s being kind. And she’s not alone.

Far-left personality Chrissy Teigen shared a similarly arrogant thought about a second Trump presidency.

“It’s also kind of scary because it’s, ‘Oh, he’s aware of me,'” Teigen said, “What could really happen because of that? We obviously know he’s unhinged, but could he actually come after you in other ways? It’s a weird feeling.”

Even by celebrity standards, the self-importance is off the charts.

Set that aside.

There’s another factor that’s more important and easily overlooked. Progressives are constantly projecting their authoritarian impulses on the Right.

That’s how they think and, more ominously, behave.

Remember how the Obama White House leveraged the IRS against conservative groups? That actually happened, although the press treated it with all solemnity of the Obama tan suit “scandal.”

What about targeting sponsors to take down “The View?”

Liberal groups have been using that tactic for decades. Just ask Tucker Carlson and Rush Limbaugh, two conservative speakers who faced serial attacks from progressive groups on that front.

Or any right-leaning web site.

The latter explains why many conservative platforms have embraced a pay model. They understand traditional advertisers are often chased away by progressive groups.

And, of course, the Biden administration’s “lawfare” tactics are currently focusing on more than just Trump. A doctor who blew the whistle on gender surgery practices is facing 10 years in jail. A nurse who voiced similar concerns got a knock on the door from FBI agents.

Conservative firebrand Steve Bannon will soon be in jail for defying a subpoena, a similar issue facing Attorney General Merrick Garland. The latter won’t be seeing the inside of a jail cell, though.

It’s all projection. All of it.

There’s plenty of reason to dismiss what’s said on “The View,” arguably the least substantive show on modern TV. It’s still instructive to consider what the hosts say and the bigger meaning behind it.

Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the mainstream media. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.

  1. During the Iran Hostage crisis Night-Line ( think it was them) had a sign that said Day ### of the Hostage crisis. If Trump gets elected someone should do the same thing:

Day ###- Joy Behr not in jail; Day ### – Bill Maher not in Guantanamo Bay; Day ### – Rachel Maddow not sent to a camp.
The question is will they be relieved or disappointed.

  2. The way things are going, “The View” may be canceled BEORE Trump has a chance to put that to the test. It just seems like ABC is dragging its feet doing the right thing. Now if they could sack that creep that does “World News Tonight”, David Muir.

  3. “There’s plenty of reason to dismiss what’s said on “The View,” arguably the least substantive show on modern TV. It’s still instructive to consider what the hosts say and the bigger meaning behind it.”

I have to admit, I struggle with this. On one hand, why give these people the attention they so crave? Isn’t it time we just start ignoring these idiots? On the other, they need to be called out for their idiocy.

  4. Actually, getting the View off the air would propel Trump to a 100% lead. Toss in Madcow and that would be a clenched without going through November. So, what’s the downside here?

  5. This panic comes entirely from projection of things Biden and Obama have already done. If Trump acted like any of the tyrannical leaders we’ve been seeing from the left, they would have something to worry about.

  6. Oh puleese! They are all legends in their own mind!
Trump doesn’t spend a single micro-second thinking about any of these folks…

  7. Behar my be right, but if Trump’s second reelection results in The View being canceled, it will be because people have finally realized how silly, stupid, biased and emotionally stunted the show’s hosts are.

  8. What’s so frustrating is that most regular Democrat voters – you know, the ones who don’t believe that a girl can have a penis – have no clue about all of the abuses of power that their elected officials are engaging in. Their media isn’t telling them.
If they had a full understanding of just how radical and authoritarian their party has become, they’d be shocked.

    1. Right. They’re still carrying on as though it’s 1935 and ol’ granddad would have lost the farm were it not for that nice Mr Roosevelt and you’d still be working 57 hours a day were it not for the union leadership.

The mythology enables everything that follows.

    2. Oh, I don’t know. I think they know, but figure that they aren’t part of the targeted group and won’t suffer. As well they share the opinions, morals ,and values so are sure that they’re on the ” right” side. I mean come on, how many of these nitwits still get all of their news from cnnmsnbcnpr…..etc etc etc ?

    3. That’s the main issue and why the Democrat party still manages to get so many votes in elections.
The mainstream media covers for them and misinformes and gaslights the audience.
Until that is overcome its not going to change anytime soon.
