Media Won’t Forgive Louis C.K, But Graham Platner Gets a Pass

Democratic candidate gets cushier treatment than disgraced comedian

Let’s state the obvious.

What comedian Louis C.K. did, by his own admission, was gross, reckless and harmful.

Louis C.K. admits the allegations against him are true

The “Louie” star confessed in 2017 to exposing himself in a sexual manner to multiple women. He never faced any legal repercussions or lawsuits, but his vibrant career imploded as a result.

No more TV shows, movies or support from the Legacy Press. He lost millions in the fallout. The media deemed him a ghoul, too, and he earned that admonishment.

That was nine years ago. Over time, C.K. built his brand back from nothing, using his talent, name recognition and a muscular email list.

Now, he’s front and center, courtesy of a new Netflix stand-up special called, “Ridiculous.” And the Legacy Media not only won’t stop bringing up his past actions, their reviews revisit the scandal over and again.

To them, he should stay cancelled forever. Is there another interpretation?

Yet a far more important figure’s alleged actions against multiple women, learned mere weeks ago, is mostly downplayed by the press.

Why are they holding C.K. to a much higher standard than a possible U.S. senator?

The Democrats’ Graham Platner hopes to oust Susan Collins from the Senate this Fall, possibly wresting control of the body from the GOP in the process. Platner had a Nazi tattoo on his chest for 18 years before he covered it up last year for political purposes.

He claimed ignorance of the tattoo’s true meaning. Yet that isn’t his only personal scandal.

US Senate candidate Graham Platner under fire after new allegations

He’s been credibly accused of serial infidelity and physically abusing at least one woman. One person’s account of his alleged abuse is shocking, including him locking her in a room and repeatedly grabbing her so hard it left marks.

So surely the Legacy Media has been all over Platner and continues to push the matter while covering his campaign?

Hardly.

Heck, media outlets even soft-balled his Nazi tattoo. Some said it “resembled” a Nazi tattoo. Others said it was “recognized” as such.

An ex-girlfriend told the press he knew exactly what the tattoo represented and called it by its proper name – “my Totenkopf.”

So where’s the media outrage?

Meanwhile, Variety’s “Ridiculous” review obsesses over C.K.’s past, an issue that has been discussed at length for nearly a decade. It’s obvious that his fans have processed his actions, as has a Hollywood entity like Netflix.

It’s never over as far as Variety is concerned.

The release of “Ridiculous” also culminates a tour that saw C.K. make inroads with the kind of liberal-coded publications that once covered his reputational nadir, with favorable write-ups in both the Times and the New Yorker.

The Guardian can’t let go of the matter, either.

It’s less a triumphant return than a gradual slinking back, an unspoken assumption that no one really cares that much about his behavior; no particular defense or apology, just a shruggy emoticon. When describing a tour of his elderly father’s prospective nursing home in the special, Louis CK says: “The theme of the tour is: ‘This Is What This Is’,” implying a sense of grim acceptance. It feels a bit like that’s the theme of the Ridiculous tour, too – whether we want it to be or not.

Other reviews also complain, and this isn’t the first time, that he doesn’t address the scandal in his stand-up act. How often should he do that? Is it something he should bring up every time he greets a crowd?

There’s nothing funny about what he did. He apologized at the time that his acts were revealed. What more do we demand of him?

Either we can forgive his transgressions and enjoy his jokes … or we can’t. It’s that simple.

The irony here shouldn’t be overlooked.

The press pounced on the MeToo movement, part of which snared C.K. by his own actions. Yet the movement faded, in part, because the media and the Left, but we repeat ourselves, couldn’t hold guilty Democrats accountable when they allegedly crossed the line.

See Biden, Joe as the best example. But there are others (including Platner).

Now, reporters are soft-pedaling Platner’s allegations while refusing to move on from what C.K. admitted.
