Luis Guzmán: Latino Trump Voters Are ‘Ignorant’

Veteran 'Wednesday' actor slams Cancel Culture, MAGA voters

Luis Guzmán has spent decades in the Hollywood trenches.

The veteran actor pings from comedy to serious drama, a versatility that suits his latest role on Netflix’s “Wednesday.”

Wednesday: Season 2 | Part 2 Official Trailer | Netflix

Guzmán plays family patriarch Gomez Addams on the show, now in its second season. The series focuses on the clan’s dark cloud of a daughter, played by Jenna Ortega, but allows for the iconic family to be part of her journey.

The star isn’t known for his political opinions a la Mark Ruffalo, Sean Penn or Cynthia Nixon. He still weighed in on President Donald Trump during a recent interview on the “Gracias, Come Again” iHeartRadio podcast.

Host Honey German nudged the actor on celebrity activism as part of the conversation. That allowed the “Carlito’s Way” alum to mock Cancel Culture as a self-imposed mantra.

It’s not, or at least it wasn’t for far too many people in recent years. Comedians self-censored during the woke era for fear of career repercussions. Others said what they thought they had to say to stay employed.

Still, Guzmán supports the freedom to speak your mind, which is a noble cause. He used that candor to attack his fellow Latinos on the political front.

He referenced a previous interview where he was asked why so many Latino men voted for, as Guzmán called the current U.S. President, “What’s his face,” during the 2024 presidential election.

And it wasn’t just men in that demographic group. From Axios:

President Trump won a higher percentage of the Latino vote in 2024 than previously believed and came within striking distance of capturing a historic majority of those voters, according to a new Pew Research Center analysis of the election results.

Why?

“Because they ignorant. Because they did not look at, maybe I could represent my daughter and vote for a woman. It’s like that whole machismo thing still exists,” Guzman told her.

“I take pride in who I am … I love being outspoken when it comes to our community,” he continued, expressing the need for “better role models in our community.”

“Not only the men but the women to stand up for who we are … let’s have each other’s backs,” he added before burnishing his free speech bona fides. “If telling the truth is a risk, that’s a risk I’m willing to take.”

He later pushed for the U.S. government to provide free college and health care, saying the countries that provide such services aren’t hurt, fiscally speaking.

Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the corporate press. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.

  1. Must be tough for Guzman to be the only Puerto Rican in Cabot, VT (97.2% white, .06% Hispanic), where he’s lived for 30 years. Not exactly where you’d find the voice of the Latino community.

  2. Shorter Guzman: “I’m so brave to state what 98% of Hollywood believes and it will do nothing but increase my career opportunities.”

  3. He’s been comfortable for so long that he hasn’t a clue as to what motivated the change. Machismo is a small part. Providing for a family and not having your neighborhood overun with “migrants” might have something to do with it. But Trump…blah blah blah

  4. I’m Mexican American, but if I picked my leaders according to race or gender, instead of choosing a president for their character, leadership and love of country, it would be a huge mistake. Guzman should educate himself and go live in Mexico, they have a corrupt female president, let’s see how that works out for him. I believe it’s only working out well for the cartels.

  5. Let’s put it this way. We have what’s his face as President because both Parties presented candidates in the last two decades that were sorely lacking. Whst’s his face didn’t have to be the greatest, just a better option that the babling drunk, the babbling senile, the guy whose proposal was “let’s elect the first ever black, or mulatto, President of Wakanda ever, or the preppy sock puppet who was so weak that 9-11 happened on his watch. that was a low threshold for almost anyone.

the presidency is a job. not a popularity contest. I might vote for Tulsi Gabbard, but not because of her chromosomes. that would be very low register. almost like most democrats.

  6. He plays Gomez so poorly in Weds. that I can’t watch the second season. Not his fault that he was miscast and it is hard shoes to fill. He sounds like an illiterate peasant/thug , mouth breather who can barely form words and is uncomfortable using them, not an erudite, whimsical optimist, completely and childishly enthused with whatever is in front of him

He may not want to copy the original in the TV series, but sometimes how a character is played is the only way of presenting the story.

Pearls before swine on Trump and our form of government. Not that ignorance is an excuse, but he probably would not get anything out of being educated about what a gift the founding fathers gave to America.

  7. I am very happy that Luiz Guzman has graduated from niche roles to mainstream. By no means does this allow you to hop on your soapbox and pass judgment or opine on the political proclivities of others. In the infamous words of Ricky Gervais, “Take your money, thank the producers, and be on your way.” What we Mexican hicks do not lack for is a mouthpiece feeding us Hollywood groupthink.

  8. Whelp, I won’t be watching Wednesday then thanks to him running his ignorant, Marxist man pleasing c*ck holster.

  9. He’s the ignorant one. Fiscally, the USA has deficits in the trillions. Mexico has a female President. He’s ignorant that the Democrats picked a worse candidate. Two recent female candidates (Clinton and Harris) lost against Trump, but sleepy Biden allegedly won.

  10. So Guzman is a leftist democrat which is standard for this crowd. When pushed he jumped straight wanting into free shit for the mexicans instead of self reliance and hard work. This is good to know as now when I see his ugly puss in a movie and I can flip channels.
“U.S. government to provide free college and health care, saying the countries that provide such services aren’t hurt, fiscally speaking.. so now he’s pushing Socialism and those countries have massive taxes and have stagnant economies. Bye Bye Louie.. I now seewho you are.
