Katy Perry’s Woke Land Acknowledgement, Explained
Fading pop star's anti-ICE message isn't an isolated moment

Katy Perry “kissed a girl” when it was cool, edgy and different.
The singer’s 2008 debut became a sensation, and a new pop starlet is born. Now? The 40-year-old Perry can’t buy good press. Her recent “astronaut” stint got heckled across the pop culture landscape.
Even fellow celebrities took pot shots at the trip.
“What’s the point?” [Actress Olivia] Munn said while co-hosting TODAY With Jenna & Friends on April 3. “Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. … Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they going to do up there that has made it better for us down here?”
Perry’s current Lifetimes tour suffered from similar blowback. She said she felt like a “human piñata” after the online beating, including leaked clips from the flailing tour.
The numbers tell a larger story.
Lifetimes ticket sales are down. Her 2024 album “143” also disappointed in the sales department. Critics weren’t too kind, either. Pitchfork dubbed the disc a “spectacular flop.”
What’s a gal to do? Why, go woke, of course. And it’s hardly the first time. Could that explain Perry’s recent foray into the L.A. riots and battles to enforce immigration laws?
Perry has leaned into the LGBTQ “ally” role for some time. The “I Kissed a Girl” song opened the door, and she jumped in with two high-heeled shoes. She used her perch to aggressively promote progressive causes, gaining mostly fawning press along the way.
Some naysayers complained, but that connects to the hard and fast rule of woke politics.
You can never be woke enough. Ever.
She’s even gone to bat for Climate Change, a curious position given her recent space jaunt. Even the far-Left Buzzfeed noticed the discrepency.
Katy Perry is catching allot of backlash for going into space, creating more carbon emissions in a single flight than most of us do all year. Back in 2015 she made a video for UNICEF highlighting the dangers of man made climate change. She’s being called out for the hypocrite… pic.twitter.com/LQ2mMBZaII

Now, Perry is slapping cringe-worthy messages on her social media pages. They are tied to the current imbroglio in Los Angeles as President Donald Trump fulfills his campaign promise to enforce immigration laws.
We’ve already seen violence sparking curfew rules in the City of Angels. Clips of rampant mayhem went viral everywhere except Legacy Media circles and Late Night TV.
Perry waded into the matter by playing the “Land Acknowledgement” card. She shared several messages attacking ICE and pushing for open, unfettered borders.
“This was once Mexican land, and the people being targeted today are often descendants of those who have lived here for generations – or who came seeking safety, work, and dignity …”The people [here] – especially the brown and Indigenous people – have always been there, planting roots, building lives, raising families … And now in 2025, the descendants of those same communities are being hunted like criminals in their own ancestral home.”
She also promoted hashtags like, “Abolish ICE and No Human Is Illegal.”
It’s ironic that Perry previously fought with nuns who protested her purchasing a former convent based on her less than spiritual content.
