‘Gutfeld!’ Crushes Colbert and Co. During RNC Week
Fox News superstar returns to 11 pm time slot, dominates late-night liberals
Hollywood left a heap of cash on the table, and the industry apparently has no regrets.
How?
Studios left and right ignored the need for a conservative alternative to Colbert, Kimmel, Fallon and friends.
Fox News stepped in, and the network’s “Gutfeld!” remains a runaway hit. We’ve yet to see a network or streaming platform attempt a “Gutfeld!” like alternative since then, and Greg Gutfeld couldn’t be happier.
Just look at the ratings.
“Gutfeld!” returned to its original 11 pm ET time slot last week during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisc. (The show switched to 10 pm ET last year)
The results from its first-ever week of live shows?
The talk show crushed the late-night competition, according to Fox News citing Nielsen Media Research data. “Gutfeld!” drew a whopping 3.3 million viewers, on average, during the week. That bested all the late-night liberals including “The Late Show,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “The Tonight Show.”
It gets more dominant.
“Gutfeld!” generated more eyeballs than “The Late Show” and “The Tonight Show” combined. Plus, the Fox News program outperformed “The Daily Show” and “Late Night with Seth Meyers” in both the 18-49 and 25-54 age brackets.
RELATED: ‘GUTFELD!’ STILL KING OF LATE NIGHT
What’s still shocking about the matter is clear.
Late-night TV roundups routinely ignore “Gutfeld!” when sharing compilation stories about how they tackle hot-button issues, such as President Joe Biden’s decision not to seek a second term. Media reporters pretend “Gutfeld!” doesn’t exist.
Why?
It proves how much money Hollywood left on the table before Fox News gobbled it up.
There’s another reason they pretend “Gutfeld!” doesn’t exist.
Journalists also don’t want to repeat Gutfeld’s wisecracks for fear audiences will be exposed to them and even, gasp, laugh.
Meanwhile, late-night talkers are either downsizing or going extinct. The format has lost Conan O’Brien, Desus & Mero, Samantha Bee and James Corden in recent years. Seth Meyers, the lecture-happy host of NBC’s “Late Night” showcase lost its band due to budget cuts.
My wife and I have been Gutfeld! fans for a couple of years. At one time, we even considered taking our lives in our hands and visiting NYC to attend a live taping. Over the past several months, however, his material has gotten stale. This is evidenced by the numerous “you can hear a pin-drop” responses from his live audiences. And, as someone else mentioned, his fake laugh, while convincing in our early viewing days, has gotten to be obnoxious. Regular guest and runner-up sidekick when Tyrus is absent, Kat Timpf, brings nothing to the show. Unlike other guests, she has to have notes to reference within eyesight at all times which tells me she isn’t capable of voicing an original thought. That and her frequent glances to the audience to seek their approval has resulted in us recoding the show so that we can use the FF option on the remote whenever she opens her mouth. She will be the demise of Gutfeld! if she isn’t replaced. Invite Kennedy or Katie Pavlich to fill that void. Or make that a rotating guest seat as the other two are.
Totally consistent with the truth. I can’t wait till
it airs, every night there is a comment that relates to the topic of the news cycle. I enjoy the casts constant p ursuit of openness, giving us a clearer understanding of what the Left is up to.
Amazing show. I’ve watched it since the beginning. I keep wondering why there’s no conservative alternatives rising since there’s a hungry audience for it, but most of that’s on YouTube, Rumble, etc. now.
How long can CNN, MSNBC, etc keep funding stuff that fewer and fewer want to watch? Is Blackrock really that wealthy they can just keep funding forever?
Jerks will always have an audience in America. The greatest country in the world.
The elephant in the room for Gutfeld is he produces these kind of numbers without a Hollywood guest list. Strangely there’s a very applicable movie that uniquely shows an odd relationship between Hollywood & the Gutfeld! Show. It was called “He’s Just Not That Into You”. Gutfeld shows it’s not so much about a guy in a relationship, it’s more about Hollywood & its relationship to America. As Gutfeld has just proven, he’s renamed that same movie. It’s now called, “Hollywood, America’s Just Not That Into You”.
Great point … and there’s more. He’s said that PR types steer actors clear of his show … too problematic to have them appear on a right-leaning program. So even if Gutfeld wanted the stars to shine on his couch … they refuse to appear!
Gutfeld can be an acquired taste, but once you understand what a strong writer he is as well as the direction of the show its a quick acclamation. While its great to see him support his guests with laughter he sometimes works a little too hard at it. You can support the guests and still take it down a notch. Show is consistent and his frequent guests, including Jamie Lissow as well as Tyrus never disappoint. As a former university professor and morning radio show nitwit, its a 9.5 out of 10. Worth sampling.
When he was on Red Eye, he would have late GWAR vocalist Oderous Urungus on and it was always a blast!
Gutfeld is a generous late night host. He gives ample opportunity to his regulars to get in their share of laughs and he frequently has Michael Lotus on who can be depended upon to give spontaneous remarks supporting Gutfeld.
Love Michael Loftus … and be being generous with his guests means he has the confidence to let others be funny!
GUTFELD IS THE CRUSHER!! No lies ,Facts people!! Put that in your pipe and smoke it…
