Gig Cancellations Are Totally Out of Control

Springsteen cover band's dismissal latest in deeply worrying trend

Cancel Culture is dead. Not so fast.

Yes, canceled stars like Kevin Spacey, Louis CK and Jonathan Majors are back at work, and the woke mob took a hit with President Donald Trump’s re-election.

Has anyone been as aggressively canceled as the real estate mogul?

We’re still seeing a wave of cancellations across the entertainment landscape. Many involved Jewish stars who have the temerity to seek an audience for their skills. Others are canceled for the dumbest reasons possible.

Take No Surrender.

The Bruce Springsteen cover band planned to rock New Jersey’s Riv’s Toms River Hub on May 30. The date was set in motion last year, and all seemed well until Springsteen himself started attacking President Trump during his European concert tour.

Bruce Springsteen slams Trump AGAIN in second overseas rant

“In my country, they’re taking sadistic pleasure in the pain that they inflict on American workers, they’re rolling back historic civil rights legislation that led to a more just and moral society,” he says in the clip. “They’re abandoning our great allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.”

Those comments gave venue owner Tony Rivoli cold feet, according to The New York Post, citing his bar’s conservative customer base.

Rivoli allegedly put the kibosh on the show that was booked nine months in advance. He texted (lead singer Brad) Hobicorn that the gig would be “too risky at the moment…

“Unfortunately it’s just too much money I wanted to do the Springsteen tribute for that money in my social media team would have promoted it we would have done well but now because Bruce can’t keep his mouth shut we’re screwed,” Rivoli wrote in a text message to Hobicorn obtained by NJ Advance Media.

Were they, though? Perhaps the rocker’s fans wouldn’t blame the cover band for his overseas statements. Or, patrons might disagree with The Boss and still enjoy a band bringing his best songs to life.

Instead, the show didn’t go on despite a last-minute attempt to salvage the gig.

This isn’t an isolated incident.

A Chicago venue recently refused to screen Jewish rapper Kosha Dillz’ partially-completed documentary on campus antisemitism. The venue in question has since had a change of heart.

Last year, a Seattle comedy club canceled four rebel comics due to their rebellious nature.

Michael Rapaport regularly attracts pro-Palestinian protesters who seek to cancel his comedy club appearances. They were successful with one Chicago-based venue.

Jewish rapper Matisyahu also has faced cancellations tied to his Jewish identity, as did actor/author Brett Gelman of “Stranger Things” fame.

Alamo Drafthouse workers in Brooklyn tried to cancel a “September 5” screening earlier this year. The film depicts the Palestinian terrorists who killed 11 Israeli athletes.

Some cancellation threats are deadly serious.

Phelim McAleer has had to hire security to ensure his play “October 7” didn’t get its cast permanently canceled.

The media has done a poor job of reporting on the aforementioned cancellations.

Worst of all?

Where are the celebrities standing up for their fellow artists? Could Springsteen spare some stage time to denounce Jewish artists being canceled for their religious identity?
