FIRST LOOK: ‘Melania’ Trailer Takes Us Inside Trump 2.0
FLOTUS doc sure to stir debate, rancor following Jan. 30 release

The new year may see fireworks long before Independence Day arrives.
“Melania,” the long-discussed documentary detailing the First Lady’s unique life is set to hit theaters Jan. 30. The film, directed by canceled Hollywood veteran Brett Ratner, takes us into Melania Trump’s world right before her husband moves back into the White House.
Here’s the official description, straight from Team Amazon’s PR division.
Amazon MGM Studios’ film MELANIA offers unprecedented access to the 20 days leading up to the 2025 Presidential Inauguration — through the eyes of the First Lady herself. Step inside Melania Trump’s world as she orchestrates inauguration plans, navigates the complexities of the White House transition, and moves her family back to the Nation’s Capital. With exclusive footage capturing critical meetings, private conversations, and never-before-seen environments, MELANIA showcases Mrs. Trump’s return to one of the world’s most powerful roles.
Almost everything about the film has come under scrutiny. That includes:
- Ratner’s return to filmmaking following serious MeToo accusations
- FLOTUS’s reticence to open up about her colorful life … until now
- Amazon’s willingness to spend big on the project – $40 million
- The public’s appetite, or lack therof, for more information on the two-time First Lady
- The Trumps’ eagerness to inject themselves into pop culture, a la the Obamas
Ratner is also attached to “Rush Hour 4,” a long-delayed sequel reportedly nudged into production by President Trump himself.
Melania Trump has a producing credit on “Melania.” That means she’ll have some say, and sway, over the finished product. That’s in line with recent documentaries, including “Becoming.” That 2020 documentary covering former First Lady Michelle Obama came courtesy of the subject’s production shingle, Higher Ground.
Or, consider “Miss Americana,” a 2020 look at Taylor Swift’s political awakening. The left-leaning Guardian review dubbed it “a celebrity profile that’s been sent to the celebrity for approval first.”
Film critics will likely pounce and/or seize on “Melania” given the industry’s progressive nature.
But will it draw a crowd?
Documentaries rarely make big bucks at the box office. Last year’s Daily Wire documentary feature “Am I Racist?” made more cash than any other nonfiction film in the past decade – $10 million.
That hardly covers Amazon’s initial investment, assuming the film even reaches that tally.
The film will hit Prime Video cyber-shelves soon after its theatrical run, giving the streamer an original title that could spark membership interest.
We’ll let Mrs. Trump herself have the last word, courtesy of the film’s official press statement.
“History is set in motion during the 20 days of my life prior to the U.S. Presidential inauguration. For the first time, global audiences are invited into theaters to witness this pivotal chapter unfold—a private, unfiltered look as I navigate family, business, and philanthropy on my remarkable journey to becoming First Lady of the United States of America.”
