Should Conservatives Rally Behind Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Christy?”
Boxing biopic could use some Red State love (but don't bet on it)

Conservatives spent last week cheering Sydney Sweeney for staring down a woke interviewer.
Oh, how quickly they forget.
Sweeney’s new, Oscar-bait drama “Christy” debuted in roughly 2,000 over the weekend. The Christy Martin biopic earned a pathetic $1.3 million in its opening frame, suggesting it’ll be out of theaters in short order.
Is that any way to treat a culture war heroine?
Just days earlier, Sweeney squared off against a journalist from the far-Left GQ Magazine. The scribe tried to guilt Sweeney into apologizing for her now infamous American Eagle jeans ad.
The spot found the actress teasing the similarities between the words “jeans” and “genes.” The gag? Sweeney won the genetic lottery, the unwritten part of the commercial.
The far-Left raged against both Sweeney and the ad, suggesting it implied White Supremacy run wild. The actress ignored the imbroglio, and it mostly went away.
Mostly.
The GQ scribe hoped to guilt the starlet into apologizing for the campaign.
GQ: “There’s a chance that somebody will get some idea about what you think about certain issues and feel like, I don’t want to see Christy because of that. Do you worry about that?”
SWEENEY: “No.”
GQ: “Is there something that you want to say about the ad itself?”
SWEENEY: “The ad spoke for itself.”
GQ: “The criticism of the content was basically that maybe specifically in this political climate, white people shouldn’t joke about genetic superiority … I just wanted to give you an opportunity to talk about that specifically.”
SWEENEY: “I think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.”
Game. Set. Match. Sweeney. And conservatives on social media rallied behind her comments.
When a GQ reporter recently tried to press Sydney Sweeney about her “good genes” ad and to denounce MAGA, the starlet responded with calm precision that left critics rattled. Her grace under pressure quietly & publicly dismantled the woke outrage machine. https://t.co/k2VRfe3s2P pic.twitter.com/BsZHmjO8aS

Instead of a fun clip featuring a lovely actress and American Eagle model, the GQ team produced what can be best described as an HR struggle session.https://t.co/DDvNhWZSG8

Yet for all the conservative social media love, it didn’t translate into movie ticket sales. Did the film’s marketing team fail? Are audiences bored with boxing biopics?
No matter.
Where are Sweeney’s Red State admirers? Shouldn’t they stand up for the starlet, especially after she stared down the woke mob?
This isn’t a sympathy ploy. “Christy,” a moderately well-reviewed film that deserves awards season consideration, is worth the price of admission. Sweeney’s first meaty performance is a winner, too.
And imagine if “Christy” made a “Rocky”-style comeback? The Right rallied behind the anti-Bud Light campaign following the company’s embrace of trans model Dylan Mulvaney (and out-of-touch comments by a key Bud Light executive).
Why can’t the opposite happen with “Christy?” It’s not a boycott but a “buy-cott,” a way to thank that rare actress who stood up to the woke mind virus.
It’s a tall task.
Films rarely recover from weak opening frames. A notable exception? The 2017 musical “The Greatest Showman.” It opened softly, but enthusiastic word of mouth made it a smash – $471 million in global sales.
“Christy” can’t repeat that film’s remarkable bounce-back story. If conservatives want a bigger seat at the pop culture table, supporting a movie like “Christy” and a star like Sweeney could be the first step.
I hate the idea of women getting beaten. I quit watching 24 when they were touring a woman. my wife made fun of me.

Would love to support her but have zero interest in a movie featuring a pretty actress made to look ugly in a sports movie about a female boxer I never heard of and have no interest in. Worse yet, a lot of people, especially on the right, don’t think females should participate in boxing, so the movie has a leftist worldview. Good people don’t enjoy seeing women getting beat up.
Nobody asked for this movie. Problem is subject matter. Wouldn’t even watch it for free. Sweeny needs to choose to participate in better material.
