Why Aren’t Feminists Rushing to Sydney Sweeney’s Defense?

Conservatives take actress' side, but where are her fellow starlets?

Sydney Sweeney has agency, and she knows how to use it.

The 27-year-old star embraced her sex appeal earlier this year by selling her bathwater in tiny doses. Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss proved a marketing hit, snagging free media coverage for the artisanal soap product.

And, in the process, Sweeney proved a good sport about her image. Male Gaze? Bring it!

Now, she’s the face of American Eagle jeans, and we all know how that went over across the fruited plains.

The Left melted down, dubbed her a Nazi and worse, if that’s possible. Everyday Americans chuckled over the dustup and sent American Eagle stock soaring.

And conservatives rushed to Sweeney’s side, noting it’s normal for a beautiful woman to hawk a product like blue jeans. Welcome to the Culture Wars, 2025 style.

Even a certain world leader weighed in on SweeneyGate.

One group is missing in this equation: Feminists.

Where are they?

Why aren’t they riding to Sweeney’s defense? After all, an empowered young actress has taken on not one but two sponsorships that she felt best represented her values.

Isn’t that what the term “agency” is all about?

When Stephen Colbert got canned by CBS last month, his fellow talk-show hosts rallied to his side, sputtering curses along the way.

It’s something we commonly see around Tinsel Town, artists having each other’s backs. Yet Sweeney stands virtually alone in the Hollywood ecosystem.

Now, it’s possible that she’s receiving plenty of support behind the scenes. We got you, Syd, they might DM or text the “Anyone But You” star. They apparently won’t do it publicly.

What about the Women’s Marchers from La La Land? Amy Schumer? Scarlett Johansson? Frances McDormand? Charlize Theron? Madonna? Zendaya?

The chances of that happening vanished when multiple media outlets dug into Sweeney’s background and learned she registered as a Republican last year.

It’s Woodward and Bernstein-level journalism from reporters who buried the Hunter Biden laptop scandal and called a dementia-addled president sharp as a tack.

Women’s groups and feminists alike stood down when Disney unfairly fired Gina Carano. They’re doing the same here.

It’s not surprising. They’re not about empowering women – if there’s a chance said woman wears a MAGA hat.

UPDATE: Ironically, the first major star to defend Sweeney isn’t a woman. Actor/comedian Michael Rapaport has come to the starlet’s defense.

“This is a young 27-year-old girl that’s being bullied and harassed. You don’t think her team of powerful agents and lawyers dotted every I and ran everything up the flagpole to do that American Eagle jeans campaign and all of a sudden she’s a Nazi, and it’s white supremacy? Leave her the f— alone.”
