‘The Shroud: Face to Face’ Doc Lands Distribution Deal
Robert Orlando's film explores our endless fascination with the garment
The new year promises the release of a documentary sure to be of interest to the faithful worldwide.
Vision Video will distribute “The Shroud Face to Face” on March 28. This film, based on the book of the same name by author, filmmaker and Hollywood in Toto contributor Robert Orlando, explores the ageless mysteries behind the Shroud of Turin.
The film boasts expert commentary on the subject, covering not just its spiritual significance but cultural and scientific meanings.
The Shroud of Turin, what many believe is Jesus Christ’s burial garment, first surfaced in 1354 according to Brittanica.com. Scientists have studied the garment for decades, and it has mostly remained out of public view except for rare circumstances.
In 2015, Pope Francis traveled to Turin to view the garment.
“The icon of this love is the shroud, that, even now, has attracted so many people here to Turin,” Francis said. “The shroud draws [people] to the tormented face and body of Jesus and, at the same time, directs [people] toward the face of every suffering and unjustly persecuted person.”
The book upon which the film is based has the endorsement of the Most Reverend Bishop Robert Barron, founder of Word on Fire.
“This is a compelling and convincing account of the single most fascinating relic in the Christian world. This is for anyone seeking to understand the significance and history of the Shroud of Turin.”
According to the film’s web site, the documentary offers a “reconstruction of the actual crime scene surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion and presents a mind-blowing fusion of faith and science for the first time.”
“The Shroud Face to Face” will be available in select theaters and digital platforms on March 28. Visit the film’s official web site for more information on theaters, streaming options and behind-the-scenes content. Those who subscribe to the web site will be able to catch a sneak peek of the film.
