We’re About to See a LOT of Sydney Sweeney

American Eagle jeans model set for flood of big-screen appearances

Yes, Pedro Pascal has appeared in his fair share of projects of late.

Release schedules can be tricky. Sometimes a film sits for a spell before finally hitting theaters. It’s one reason an actor can suddenly appear busy when his or her schedule doesn’t reflect that.

Perception is often reality. That’s why we’re about to see a lot of a certain American Eagle jeans model.

Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans | American Eagle

Sydney Sweeney rose to fame thanks to her work in “The White Lotus,” “Euphoria” and “Anyone But You” with Glen Powell.

Now, with a certain jeans commercial lighting up social media, she’s about to be, well, everywhere. Here’s a look at her upcoming film releases. Two hit select theaters Aug. 22 alone.

‘Eden’

Director Ron Howard’s films usually don’t linger on a cinematic shelf. That wasn’t the case with “Eden,” a project slated for a 2024 release. The movie debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last September but was held back from the public until Aug. 22.

It’s a curious delay for a director whose work routinely snags Oscar consideration. It suggests the finished product might not be among Howard’s best work, or the content is harder to market than initially assumed.

The strong ensemble cast, including Sweeney, Ana de Armas, Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby, follows a small group of “disillusioned” people, according to the film’s press release, who flee society in search of utopia. Suffice it to say they may come up empty.

“Eden” hits theaters nationwide Aug. 22.

‘Americana’

Sweeney stars as a waitress who teams with a U.S. military veteran (Paul Walter Hauser) to chase a rare Native American artifact. This “modern-day western,” co-starring Eric Dane and Simon Rex, gets bloody as the duo close in on their target.

“Americana” opens in limited release Aug. 22.

‘Christy’

The real-life story behind female boxer Christy Martin gives Sweeney the chance to snag Oscar gold. The starlet packed on the muscle to play Martin, one of the sport’s biggest stars. The ’90s era drama doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s scheduled to screen at the Toronto Film Festival next month. That suggests a late 2025 release date, assuming it has awards season potential.

It’s unusual that the film lacks a firm release date, and the studio behind it hasn’t released an official trailer.

‘The Housemaid’

Author Freida McFadden’s psychological thriller comes to life with this Christmas Day release. The film follows  a young woman (Sweeney) who is hired as a housemaid for an upscale couple (Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar). Her character eventually uncovers secrets that could put her life in jeopardy.

  1. But will Lucy (Hollywood) yank the football away from Charlie Brown (us) at the last minute? We get all excited to see her new movies, only to get into the theater to find Hollywood used her as bait to shove more woke messaging down our throats. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. This new breed of anti-woke-reviewers (Toto) is saving us from rolling the dice on a movie, only to be disappointed that what we actually got was propaganda. Good on Sweeney. But I’ll be monitoring the Toto woke-meter before I get too excited. (Careful, Toto. Hollywood’s next move will be to offer you a huge bag and turn you to the dark side. The serpent smiles as he dangles the apple, Christian.)

  2. You can already see “a lot” of Sydney Sweeney, and not in a good way, if you know where to look. That’s why I recommend to everyone in the conservative majority on the right to tamp down on the excitement for this woman; sure, she’s a knockout, but she’s not the representative you want for your ideas, nor the role model you want for you daughters. At least not until she speaks up and repudiates some of her past.
