Media Can’t Stop Peddling Late-Night Misinformation

Jimmy Kimmel may be following Stephen Colbert out the late-night door.

Page Six reported this week that ABC won’t be renewing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” when the host’s contract wraps in May. That’s the same month that saw Colbert say adios to his CBS “Late Show” platform.

Or not.

ABC is denying that Kimmel is history, but the company’s verbiage leaves some wiggle room. 

Why hasn’t Kimmel, the biggest remaining star in late-night TV, been given a new contract? Plus, Kimmel has spoken repeatedly about hanging up his late-night mic in recent years.

And, of course, late-night TV is suffering steep declines where it matters the most.

It’s the revenue, stupid.

So how did The Hollywood Reporter cover this saga? With truth and subterfuge. 

First, the far-Left site admitted that Kimmel’s future at ABC may be in doubt.

Why? Ka-ching (or the lack thereof)

…there’s a good chance the deal does not get re-upped, especially in its current form. Jimmy Kimmel Live! is an expensive proposition. The format and required staffing are expensive, and its host is expensive. Should profit margins even still exist in late night, they have slimmed down more in the past 23 years than Kimmel himself.

That’s a reference to an inconvenient truth the media has downplayed up for months. CBS claimed that Colbert’s “Late Show” cost the network $40 million a year to produce.

$40 million! Why would CBS do anything BUT cancel the show?

No one has stepped up to deny that gargantuan figure, by the way.

Yet.

So if Colbert lost CBS that huge sum while snagging the best late-night ratings, what is “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” costing ABC? The show typically came in behind Colbert in the ratings race.

Next, The Hollywood Reporter sets up pure speculation as possible fact: Trump helped get Colbert canned.

Except there’s no proof or truth to their Daily Beast-style speculation.

Next, the outlet rewrites history to protect Kimmel. The far-Left host got suspended for a week last year after he said the alleged killer of Charlie Kirk was part of the MAGA movement.

That isn’t true now. There was zero proof of it at the time. And, the early indications all pointed to a killer who leaned to the Left when Kimmel said it.

Hard.

Knowing that, Kimmel still blamed MAGA and got suspended. (And he never apologized)

Here’s how the outlet framed that event.

At the time, both sides of the aisle rushed to distance themselves from what they believed to be Robinson’s ideologies. The right called him “woke,” the left said Kirk wasn’t far-right enough for Robinson. With the benefit of hindsight, we now know conservatives were (almost certainly) correct and Kimmel was (almost certainly) wrong.

We didn’t need hindsight. We knew enough at the time.

Except The Hollywood Reporter isn’t alone in rewriting history. Enter The Hill.

The publication wants to protect Kimmel, too, apparently. Here’s how it framed Kimmel’s suspension.

Disney also briefly pulled Kimmel off the air last fall, after he mocked Trump’s response to the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The comedian said the president was mourning Kirk as if he were a “goldfish.”

That’s pure fiction. Does anyone know how to use Google? These events occurred last year. Does anyone remember them?

The Hill wasn’t done. The site launders the Colbert/CBS divorce with this generic statement.

Late-night comedian Stephen Colbert’s 11-year run as host of CBS’s “The Late Show” came to an end in May after his own dust-ups with Trump and as the business of late-night TV becomes more murky.

Would you call losing $40 million a year “murky?” When you’re trying to protect far-Left comedians and attack President Donald Trump, you do just that.

If media outlets get these basic facts wrong, again and again, what else are they misleading us about?
