Let Bob Vylan Speak!

Anti-Israel, Pro-Palestinian rappers' Glastonbury rant shouldn't be censored

The modern Left will only defend free speech when its own denizens are under attack.

We’ve seen that so often over the last few years it’s beyond debate. Conservatives silenced on social media? The right-leaning President of the United States booted off of social media platforms?

Crickets.

A sexually explicit book gets removed from a school library’s shelf?

Book banning!

And, as if often the case, that means the Left will go to rhetorical war to defend radical, antisemitic rants. Expect more of the same following Bob Vylan’s shocking performance at this weekend’s Glastonbury Festival.

The British duo used its festival spot to savage Israel’s army and praise Palestine, all while audiences waved Palestinian flags. The rappers chanted “Free, free Palestine” and “Death, death to the IDF.”

And, of course, they chanted, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

The shocking visuals alone merit scrutiny, but both the BBC and local police suggest Vylan’s rant may warrant further investigation. The former vowed to censor the material from repeat broadcasts.

The latter?

The statement comes just hours after Avon and Somerset Police announced it was examining video footage from the set to determine whether criminal offences were committed during the performance.

That’s part of England’s draconian “free speech” rules where the wrong words can send citizens to jail. The nation’s two-tier system means Team Vylan should be fine, but those who question authority or complain about unfettered immigration should be worried about what they say in public.

Deeply.

The bigger issue here is speech. Yes, it’s startling to see such unbridled hatred on display. It’s even worse to consider the positive reaction the rappers received from the crowd.

Those Palestinian flags didn’t materialize out of thin air. The crowd clearly hoped an act or two would evoke the cause du jour. The musicians, including Kneecap, didn’t disappoint.

We need to know musicians like this exist. It’s tragic that none of the acts in question spoke out after Hamas terrorists dropped into a music festival on Oct. 7, 2023 and slaughtered innocents.

More importantly, we need to see a mob of music goers cheering Bob Vylan and its ilk on. It’s instructive. It’s important.

What we do next as a culture matters.

What we cannot do is try to silence them. More voices, not less, as Andrew Breitbart famously said. This brand of ignorance and Jew hatred cannot be shoved under the rug.

We’ll have to face it sooner or later.
