Why Does Anyone Take Jane Fonda Seriously?

Oscar winner's political musings have aged as poorly as Vietnam-era stunt

Geraldo Rivera will never live down opening Al Capone’s vault in 1986 to find … nothing.

That was embarrassing to the guerrilla journalist, and he likely thought twice about attempting anything as bold as that TV stunt again.

The same can’t be said of Jane Fonda.

The far-Left actress shamed herself in 1972 by posing on a North Vietnamese anti-aircraft gun during the Vietnam War, grinning ear to ear. She gave comfort to the enemy and delivered a toxic photo op that will trail her to the grave.

She has admitted as much.

1972: Jane Fonda Poses on North Vietnamese Anti-Aircraft Gun

Yet rather than realize her political musings aren’t ready for their closeup, Fonda has doubled down on her activism. Tripled down, to be more accurate.

She’s been front and center with regular “Fire Drill Fridays” meant to address the threat of Climate Change. She admitted her fear of enviro-doom left her unable to move at one point and pinned by depression.

The obvious questions?

  • Does she fly on private planes?
  • How does she address her own carbon footprint?
  • Does she demand film sets follow her enviro-creeds?
  • Why isn’t she pressuring China to reduce its massive carbon footprint?

She’ll never be asked any of the above. She’s a Hollywood icon who embraces progressive ideals. It’s the ultimate protection racket.

She’s expanded her activism in recent weeks to include attacks on President Donald Trump, including the “No Kings” protest circuit. Once again, she has faced zero tough but fair questions on her posturing, like:

  • Should anyone stand up for the tens of thousands of Iranian protesters allegedly killed by the regime?
  • Is it wrong to take out the world’s greatest sponsor of terrorism?
  • We’ve seen heartbreaking cases where illegal immigrants have murdered innocent women … any comment?

Her conspiracy-flecked interviews never get fact checked or put in any reasonable context. She has nothing noteworthy to share beyond MS NOW-level sound bites. Plus, she spent years ignoring real-world harm supported by Democratic politicians.

Consider:

  • Open border mania
  • A major party hiding a president’s cognitive decline
  • The Biden administration’s attempts to install a disinformation czar
  • Democratic Soft-on-Crime policies
  • Sexually explicit books in school libraries
  • Women losing out to trans women in sports at many levels

She’s Stephen Colbert without the patina of humor or a late-night couch.

Her biggest insult?

Last year, Fonda brought the Committee for the First Amendment back from the grave. The group, originally formed with the help of her late father, Henry Fonda, fought for speech rights during the McCarthy era.

The irony is profound on two levels. She said nothing during the peak of the Cancel Culture era, ignoring the shocking Twitter Files scandals and the Big Tech coverup of the Hunter Biden laptop story She looked the other way as “sensitivity readers” erased passages from beloved authors.

The most shocking part of bringing her father’s committee back to life?

She and her progressive friends said nothing as conservative actors were collectively punished under the current Hollywood system for having the “wrong” political views. Think:

And countless more names, some of them a secret for fear of further reprisals. Alec Baldwin called this stunning state of affairs “unfortunate,” but that’s all. At least he acknowledged the injustice. The vast majority of stars don’t bother to even do that.

Count Fonda among them.

The actress’s political activism remains crude, one-sided and intellectually dishonest. Why anyone cares what she says remains a mystery.

  1. Memory a few moments of unpleasant proximity to the arrogant Hanoi Jane during the early 70s in Southern California. She was with SDS founder Tom Hayden in those days.
