Conservative War on Bad Bunny Won’t End Well
Attacking woke Super Bowl singer gives juicy red meat to the Left

Bad Bunny isn’t the first, not by a long shot.
He’s not the only singer to have bashed a GOP president, grabbed his crotch on stage and sung tawdry lyrics to the masses.
He’s not even the hundredth to do some, if not all, of the above.
Yet conservatives have declared war on the Puerto Rican singer all the same. The latest salvo may be the silliest.
Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN) called Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance “indecent” and demanded an inquiry into the matter.
Remember how the outcry over Janet Jackson’s exposed boob fixed the culture? Oh, wait.
If the government can cancel Bad Bunny’s performance, what else could it do? Why set a terrible precedent like this?
That’s part of a larger, right-leaning war waged on social media, podcasting platforms and other outlets against His Bunnyness. President Donald Trump raged against the musician, as did many conservative influencers.
It’s like we haven’t seen much worse over the past 30-odd years. It would be genuinely shocking if an artist didn’t do some of the above at this point.
Did you see the Grammys telecast?
And, yes, we deserve a Halftime show sans crotch grabbing and adult lyrics. It’s an event aimed at the whole family, and parents shouldn’t have to watch the musicians perform while worrying about the next adult moment.
Still, conservatives have been making real headway into the pop culture landscape, including the recent “Melania” documentary. The film has earned north of $13 million at the US box office, a huge sum for a nonfiction event.
Conservatives have leaned into the free speech wars of late, defending bawdy comedians for having the right to offend audiences. That, in turn, made the Left look like John Lithgow’s stuffy preacher from the original “Footloose” film.
You can’t tell that joke! It might hurt someone’s feelings! Punch up, not down!
Legacy Media outlets have humiliated themselves by twisting the truth regarding “Melania,” savaging it as if it were a hybrid of “Faces of Death” and “The Birth of a Nation.”
Now, it’s the Right that looks foolish by raging against a singer’s performance, one that focused on joy and Puerto Rican pride. What’s wrong with that? Yes, he ranted about ICE mere days ago and some suspected he’d don a dress during his Super Bowl performance.
Neither happened.
The Right should have stood down and focused their attention on the New England Patriots’ shoddy offense in the year’s biggest game.
Savaging Bad Bunny over lyrics that went over the heads of many viewers, thanks to a language barrier, feels like a return to the Moral Majority days of yore.
As a result, far-Left voices like Jimmy Kimmel are teeing off on the singer’s foes.
Conservatives did something constructive to balance out Bad Bunny’s adult set and messaging, courtesy of TP USA. The youth-minded group staged an alternative halftime show featuring Kid Rock and other right-leaning artists.
No crotches were grabbed in the process. And you could watch the show without having to cover your kids’ eyes at any point.
That’s fighting art with art, and the show generated a large viewership, at least depending on the outlet doing the counting. Next year’s TP USA show may grow even bigger.
More voices, not less. More art, not less. That’s one way to win hearts and minds in the current Culture Wars.
People are missing the fact that Big Bunny was a BUSINESS decision by the NFL. They know they will never lose their audience. The money will always keep rolling in. So the only way to grow the market is to expand into other markets. If you can advertise your product on the biggest show on earth (no the Olympics do not count), how better to create a division with teams in Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, etc.?
Sorry Mr. Toto, heartily disagree (for once).
It won’t happen again! Appreciate your honesty and decorum. Rare in cyber circles
Well, I agree with you. bunny should have just been ignored. Although his pick for the super bowl was pretty tough to ignore when you are constantly bombarded with the issue all the time on every media outlet out there.
That goes double for me.
This isn’t about how any pop artist can perform in their own venue to their own fans. This is the Super Bowl, with a passive, easily influenced all ages audience. I did not tune in to the Super Bowl to have the kids watch, and influenced, by that trash. It’s insidious how the left denigrates culture by cramming their lack of values, making it look appealing, to a captive audience.
Your angle is how we lost all that ground to the left the past ten years. Placate, ignore, turn the other cheek when your values are being denigrated in your face got us all this wokeness the past ten years. Conservatives, for example, got NFL players off their knees during the National Anthem, and destroyed Bud Light sales, by 1) boycotting and 2) making their voices heard.
Excellent comments!!!
I stopped watching the super bowl years ago and I am sure they won’t miss me. But I also don’t watch the academy awards or grammys or anything this else the left controls. But remember, these kids are taught this lefty garbage in pre-school, grade school, high school and college by lefty teachers and lefty professors. How many people actually vote in school board elections?
Yeah, okay, Christian. LMFAO.
#WHATEVER
upvote to you.
Christian, I often disagree with you, but KUDOS! A spot on observation. The Right should ignore Bad Bunny, comment positively on the TP USA show, and move on. The bloviating is silly. Bad Bunny is doing to do what he does. Focusing attention on him gives him better advertising than he could ever buy. If you think all the criticism will make the slightest difference to his fans or to the Left, you’re delusional. I didn’t watch the Super Bowl and never have and never will, so I didn’t see either half time show. I could not possibly care less. The game, the shows, and the controversy are so completely inconsequential it truly is silly to engage in them.
I agree. A better response would have been a shrug of indifference. A yawn.
TPUSA’s alternative was the perfect response. Just give people an alternative.
Hope he enjoys the FCC fines for.his lewd language barred from broadcasts, many moons ago.
Mr. Toto sez: “Now, it’s the Right that looks foolish by raging against a singer’s performance, one that focused on joy and Puerto Rican pride. ”
Obviously, you haven’t a clue what Benito Antonio Ocasio focuses on….

I don’t disagree in general. I don’t think congressional members should be wasting official time on it.
.
That being said, criticism of it is valid. Foul language aside, that performance was basically a middle finger to anyone not on the left. So I think it’s valid for conservatives to respond to it beyond just having the TPUSA show.
.
Really though, I think it should just come down to the FCC leveling fines and then people going on about their business. I say that because it is against FCC rules to use foul language like that during a live show. Doesn’t matter if it’s in a different language that most of the viewers don’t understand.
.
Proof of that is the fact that both NBC and the NFL knew what was what in regards to FCC rules. I say that because it struck me as VERY odd that while Bad Bunny was performing all in Spanish, NBC’s broadcast wasn’t providing subtitles in English so that non-Spanish speakers could understand what he was singing. They easily could have done so. Because meanwhile, their streaming broadcast on Peacock was showing subtitles in real time, except they were also in Spanish.
.
The fact that NBC/the NFL refused to translate the lyrics for non-Spanish speakers meant they knew there was going to be an issue with what Bunny was was saying while singing (I use the term “singing” loosely mind you; all politics aside, the guy’s got a terrible voice and if he wasn’t Autotuned all to hell, it would be obvious) and chose to proceed anyway. That’s why the FCC should smack the crap out of them with fines, because that’s what happens when you violate FCC rules during a live broadcast over one of the major networks.
We have the right to call out obscene behavior and language, even if it’s in Spanish. The mainstream media and talk shows don’t give conservative views equal time. The FCC has the right to look into it. Americans have a right to take a stand or we will continue to be be steamrolled. The superbowl is supposed to be a family event, not a platform to show hate for moral and patriotic values.
Honestly, all I did was tune in to Turning Point USA’s All-American halftime show. That’s all I did. Just ignored Bad Bunny. Meanwhile, you’re seeing a Woke meathead like Simu Liu attacking Turning Point USA All-American halftime show.
I rarely disagree with you Christian but I do here. I do believe in free speech and choices. I don’t like horror movies but I don’t care that other people do. I do care that the left which controls education, entertainment and even most sports uses that power to shove woke crap down the throats of the rest of us every chance they get.
Obviously the NFL should have the freedom to choose somebody like Bad Bunny but millions of football fans have the freedom of speech to let them know we hate the choice and will look elsewhere for entertainment. I’ve been a lifelong football fan and I will be watching a lot less going forward not just because of this years halftime show but because the NFL decided to become political for 10 plus years.
” I do care that the left which controls education, entertainment and even most sports uses that power to shove woke crap down the throats of the rest of us every chance they get.”
.
That is spot on. It’s akin to how leftoid school teachers are taking entire classes of their students and using them as props to protest ICE arresting and deporting criminal illegal aliens. Instead of teaching their students like they’re supposed to be, they’re using them as political props by taking them out of the schools and marching them into the streets to “protest,” and often giving them premade signs to carry. The kids go along with it because A) some of them are deeply indoctrinated because too many teachers are left-wing propagandists these days instead of actual educators and B) they’re kids, and any excuse to cut class is a good thing.
.
It’s a ridiculous use of their authority over the students (and it’s not just teachers, but also principals and other school administrators doing it as well) and any of them organizing this and taking the kids out of the class for purely political protests should be fired.
no you don’t
What a ridiculous article. The FCC can’t just wave away indecency standards just because it is inconvenient, said by a protected class, or in a foreign language, or most latinos testify it’s incomprehensible (LOL) gibberish. Conservatives already won the war. The FCC inquiry is a cherry on top.
I’m just happy about the free-market addressing this problem instead of politicians. Bad Bunny doesn’t bother me as long as I have a choice to watch something else. If you like Bad Bunny, knock yourself out. But I’m tuning into something else. Free market gave millions of viewers a choice. Let the chips fall where they may.
Now if we could only speed up the creation of an alternative-studio-system to Hollywood. The woke can have their movies. The rest of us can have ours. And we can peacefully coexist in our separate corners. It’s a big country.
Honestly, I do n think peope care. It will be forgotten in a few weeks.
I probably sound like a bot, but so many of your essays are just spot-on. Honestly, I breathed a sign of relief at that halftime performance.
You’re my favorite Bot! Thanks for the kind words…
