Chris Hemsworth Goes the Full Tom Cruise
Actor best known for portraying Thor channels 'The Last Movie Star' in stirring video

Jenna Ortega rocketed to fame courtesy of “Wednesday.”
Sure, the actress had gigs prior to the Netflix series, but her macabre turn in the series set her career on fire. Regrets, she has a few.
“To be quite frank, after the show and trying to figure everything out, I was an unhappy person,” Ortega said. “After the pressure, the attention — as somebody who’s quite introverted, that was so intense and so scary.”
That’s not all.
“I’m doing a show I’m going to be doing for years where I play a schoolgirl. But I’m also a young woman.”
Fame is complicated, no doubt, but imagine an out-of-work actor reading those quotes. Frustrating hardly describes the reaction in play.
Now, consider Tom Cruise.
The actor has been one of the most famous people on the planet for decades. His every move is scrutinized, from his religious beliefs to his love life. Ortega’s fame can’t compare to what the “Mission: Impossible” superstar endures.
So what is Cruise saying these days? Thank you. Again and again.
“This weekend was one for the history books!” Cruise wrote in a message posted to Instagram. “Congratulations and thank you to every filmmaker, every artist, every crew member and every single person who works at the studios. To every theater and every employee who helps bring these stories to audiences, thank you.”
The actor continued, “To everyone that works at Paramount Pictures and Skydance, thank you for your many years of partnership and unwavering support. And most of all, THANK YOU to audiences everywhere for whom we all serve and for whom we all LOVE to entertain. Sincerely, Tom.”
Simple. Direct. Sincere. There’s a reason he’s dubbed The Last Movie Star.
Now, Chris Hemsworth is following in Cruise’s footsteps. The Australian actor is best known for playing Thor in multiple MCU films. He’ll do so again next year via “Avengers: Doomsday.”
The film is currently in production, but Hemsworth took a moment to thank everyone who helped make this superheroic journey possible. He posted a video capturing his journey with the character and added a personal note below the clip.
“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me.”
“Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!”
He didn’t have to do that. He could have complained about the grueling regimen required to look as buff as Thor does in film after film. That’s in addition to promoting the films and, of course, acting in them.
He did it all the same. Why?
Perhaps he realizes that Cruise has the right idea. It’s a privilege to act for a living, to dress up in silly clothes and make millions of people happy with your work.
The pay isn’t bad, either.
It’s great marketing, too, of course. Who isn’t more excited about the next “Avengers” installment after reading that? It’s also the best way forward for an industry enduring severe growing pains.
Streaming. Shrinking VOD windows. The rise of A.I. The MCU’s economic uncertainty. “Doomsday’s” recent release date change.
Will more stars emulate Cruise and Hemsworth? Or will they use their clout to pitch divisive political issues and, on occasion, insult roughly half the U.S. audience?
Only time, and box office results, will tell.
