Adam Carolla Walks Fine Line with ICE Cracks

Former 'Man Show' star avoids siren song of 'clapter' at all costs

Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t be more different.

Sure, the chums once co-hosted “The Man Show,” a series poking fun at gender stereotypes from the male perspective.

Today, Kimmel oversees a far-Left late-night show that spreads misinformation, not laughs. Carolla uses his podcast pulpits to deconstruct Legacy Media lies and find the funny in modern life.

One lives by “clapter,” a comic pursuing applause over yuks. The other still wrings laughter out of the absurd.

And we all know which one connects to which trait.

Which is why Carolla’s appearance at Denver’s Comedy Works on Sunday proved so refreshing. He tackled buzzworthy headlines tied to the Somali child care scandal and the ICE shooting of Renee Good in ways that made patrons think.

And laugh, of course. A lot.

Carolla brought up ICE by recalling how he drove past progressive protests along a major Denver roadway. He soft-pedaled his reaction before noting how many locals are taking a bold stand against … icy roadways.

A little misdirection never hurts in comedy.

Later, he riffed on a tip he’s been sharing about the government’s immigration enforcement arm. Just add the term “National” to “Immigration and Customs Enforcement.” It’s national in scope, after all, and the added letter would do wonders for the branding.

“We must stop NICE officers from savaging our community…” Get it?

Carolla phrased it far more effectively, using multiple examples to hammer home his point. He didn’t have to be so clever in his phrasing.

He acknowledged a time or two that the Denver audience leaned to the Right. He’s probably right, in part because Carolla’s cultural observations smack of common sense, not radical progressivism.

The comic podcaster is neither a conservative nor a partisan. His wisdom simply falls in line with some heartland values.

  • Stay in school
  • Don’t “crap out kids” (his term) before you’re economically ready for them
  • Enforce the laws
  • Keep men out of women’s sports

Carolla could have turned his Denver show into a Fox News rally. Bring up some red meat issues in a slightly comical way and soak in the applause.

Easy peasy.

That’s not his goal. Nor does he lunge for such low-hanging fruit. He’s a comedian, and he wants to earn every laugh.

That’s another way he’s different from his old tag-team partner.
