Adam Carolla Is Gavin Newsom’s Presidential Dreams Killer
Podcaster skewers flailing Governor (again) following epic 2013 smackdown

You might think twice about running for President if a comic podcaster could shred you in no uncertain terms.
It’s what Adam Carolla did to Gavin Newsom during the pair’s contentious 2013 interview.
The exchange peeled every layer of the Democrat’s defenses away. Carolla pounded him on homelessness, LA traffic and so much more.
Newsom countered with talking points that didn’t pass the smell test. Why? Carolla relentlessly followed up his tepid answers with questions he couldn’t duck.
It’s the hardest interview he has ever faced. And, given the sorry state of journalism, that won’t change moving forward.
By any realistic measure, Newsom hasn’t improved since the contentious chat. Now, he focuses more on his meme game than helping fellow Californians. And, sadly, it has him lined up to be a presidential contender.
And Carolla is stalking him. Again. At least from afar.
The podcaster lit into Newsom’s recent interview with the “All the Smoke” podcast featuring former NBA stars Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. The governor shared a woe is me tale of his younger self dining on modest meals to get by.
Turns out Newsom grew up wealthy, a fact he tried to hide in order to appeal to Joe and Jane Sixpack. Once again, Carolla saw right through his disguise.
“You should know his dad was lead counsel for Getty Oil. Getty is like the richest family in the country, maybe in the world… his dad was a judge and a lawyer, and the Gettys were close family friends … And when [Newsom] started his winery at 25, he got the money from the Getty family — just like you and I did when we were 25.”
Carolla also mocked Newsom for “code switching” – altering his dialect to appeal to a demographic other than his own:
Yeah, I’m sure all the guys from the hood, with the Getty family, up in the hizzy… J. Paul Getty was probably coming up like ‘What’s up? Word up, my homies. Come on, my shizzle. Shizzle my nizzle, where’s your hot sauce, homies?’
It isn’t the only way Carolla has hammered Newsom in recent months. The former contractor has been keeping tabs on California’s rebuilding efforts, or lack thereof, following the recent wildfires. The podcaster’s vlog series shows how few permits have been pulled to bring those communities back, another way Newsom has failed in his current gig.
Many dubbed the 2024 presidential election the “Podcast Election.” Major players like Joe Rogan, Andrew Schultz and Tim Dillon invited Team Trump on their programs. That gave the Trump/Vance ticket access to young, male audiences who swung in the GOP’s favor.
Many podcast clips went viral, too, expanding the shows’ reach and the GOP message.
Vice President Kamala Harris infamously avoided those venues, knowing she’d fair poorly in conversations that weren’t openly deferential. Plus, her hard-Left base might balk at her connecting with center-Right (or even center-Left) voices.
Podcasts could play an even bigger role in the 2028 presidential race. And that matters given the sorry state of modern journalism.
Legacy Media outlets will keep covering for Newsom indefinitely. Carolla won’t, and he likely isn’t alone.
Newsom had better start telling the truth, and fast, before the second “Podcast Election” shatters his White House dreams.
