You’ll Never Guess Which Movie Out-Performed ‘Musk’

Audiences chose TikTok-style flick over Elon Musk hit piece

Documentaries rarely make serious coin at the box office.

The vast majority would be lucky to eclipse the $1 million mark. Most make far less. Still, you’d expect a movie like “Musk” to buck that industry trend.

The subject, of course, is everyone’s favorite trillionaire. Elon Musk’s consequential life is ripe for a documentary feature.

The film earned copious media coverage in the run-up to opening day – Oct. 9. Critics hailed the film, too, and it has serious Oscar chances for the Best Documentary trophy.

Director Alex Gibney likely had another mission in mind.

The far-Left filmmaker wanted to bring Musk to his knees. Instead, he made a box office stink bomb that landed around the same time Musk debuted a flying car.

“Musk” has generated just $643K since its Oct. 9 debut. Mashable insists the film is already leaving theaters, although Gibney has rebuked that reporting on X.

The point is moot since “Musk” shed 409 screens over the weekend, leaving only 63 places to watch it nationwide, at best. If it makes more money over the next week, you might need your fingers and toes to count it all up.

Meanwhile, another 2026 documentary-style release doubled “Musk’s” box office tally.

“CatVideoFest 2026” is wrapping up its theatrical run with a $1.2 million haul worldwide, with a $1 million-plus of that number from U.S. theaters. (“Musk” was not released internationally)

The film’s trailer boasts the movie has no scripts, sets, plot or humans. It still made more than “Musk.”

Why? Let’s call out “Musk’s” insane running time – nearly four hours. Who wants to sit through any documentary that long?

Plus, we get 24/7 Musk hate from the Legacy Media, social media and late-night propagandists. What else can a one-sided documentary tell us?

And, to be fair, cats are more adorable than Musk on any given day.
