‘Scream’ Alum Decries Blacklist, Ignores Real Version

Here’s betting plenty of actresses would like to be as cancelled as Melissa Barrera.

The actress, best known for a key role in two “Scream” features, lost her job in the franchise after her extreme anti-Israeli views went public.

Actors shouldn’t lose work for sharing lousy political views. Period.

That’s not what happened here, though.

Since losing “Scream,” Barrera has appeared in “Your Monster” (2024), “Abigail” (2024) and “The Copenhagen Test” (2025).

She’s slated to co-star in three upcoming projects, including “The Collaboration” and “Black Tides.”

That’s not all. She made her Broadway debut earlier this year via “Titanique.” She’s an executive producer on “Traces of Home,” a documentary set for a Fall debut. She’s also the driving force behind a new production company.

Worst. Cancellation. Ever.

Except she can’t stop complaining about it. The actress opened up to Latino USA about her blacklisting.

“It’s hard to comprehend, but it’s also not the first time that that has happened to someone, and it won’t be the last. There are a lot of people that got fired for basically saying Palestinians deserve human rights, and they shouldn’t be getting bombed and attacked in this way.

Actors shout, “Free Palestine” from awards show stages and literally nothing happens to them.

And it’s sad to me that there are interests that are more important to certain people of power and money and that they don’t care about people’s lives and that they will do everything they can to shut people up from saying that people deserve to live, that children deserve to grow up.

No one is shutting up the pro-Palestinian protesters, even when they turn violent.

Does Barrera want an example of an actual blacklist? Here are all the films and TV shows two-time Oscar nominee James Woods has appeared in over the past decade.

Two episodes of the short-lived TV series “Dice.” That’s it.

He’s been canceled for being a conservative. And he’s not alone. For every veteran star like Tim Allen or Kelsey Grammer who keep working despite their right-leaning views, there are many others who hide their politics for fear of career reprisals.

Others are warned against so much as flirting with the Right. Consider the media backlash against Sydney Sweeney for failing to engage in politics, period. Reporters sensed she might be a Trump supporter, and they hounded her for months.

Singer Tate McCrae is facing a bullying campaign right now for similar reasons. Her thought crime? She sang with Morgan Wallen, a singer the media fears may be MAGA-coded. (He, too, refuses to engage in public political views).

Singer M.I.A. got thrown off a major music tour for one right-leaning lecture from the stage.

That’s the real, ongoing blacklist in the entertainment world. It would be great if Barrera could address those real-life concerns, not amplify her high-profile firing that only made her career bloom.
