‘SNL’ Exploits Trump’s Racist Talk to Slam GOP

The NBC sketch show invited Trump to host an episode late last year, a time when the reality show star’s poll numbers were sky high. Few pundits expected those figure to stay there much longer. Surely, Trump’s improbable run was at, or near, its end. Didn’t Andy Warhol warn about just such a time constraint?

Boy, were they wrong.

Today, Trump is the prohibitive favorite to win his party’s presidential nomination. Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio cling to hope, but they’ll need some (more) unforced errors from Trump to help their comeback bids.

That means “SNL” can mock Trump at will using the most harmful slur possible in our modern age – “You’re a racist.” And the candidate is making the show’s job easier every day.

‘White Power’ on Parade

Take this weekend’s faux commercial for the Trump campaign. The Voters for Trump sketch features one supporter sporting a Swastika armband. Another is ironing a KKK hooded sheet. A third just painted “White Power” on the side of a building.

The fake commercial ends with the note, “A message from Racists for Donald Trump.”

How can “SNL” get away with such a blisteringly cruel clip?

Trump made that:

Type “Donald Trump racist” into Google and you get roughly 68,100,00 results. That’s just the Web talking. Listen to Trump himself:

  • Unhinged rhetoric against Mexicans
  • Refusing to disavow white supremacist David Duke multiple times on national television.
  • Outlandish banter during presidential debates that more than hint at a demagogue in the making.
  • When pressed on the judge presiding over his Trump University scandal, Trump alluded to his Hispanic heritage as a factor weighing into any decision.

Yes, in case anyone forgot, Trump is running as a Republican. And he’s winning. That means plenty of conservatives are swallowing Trump’s rhetoric and begging for more. That’s giving just about every comedian fodder to not just attack Trump. They’re happy to tar his “racist” party as well.

Sticking to the Racist GOP Script

Heck, comics have been doing that for years long before Trump entered the political arena. Both comedians and journalists alike insinuate, or flat-out label, conservatives as “racist.”

It’s nothing new:

Republicans use “coded” language to hide their hate. Their passion for Voter ID laws is flat-out racist. Criticizing President Barack Obama is based on race, not policy. Of course, if a fellow Democrat critiques Obama, that’s different.

And now along comes Trump. No coded language for him. No, flat-out racism will do just fine, thank you.

And, in response, comedians are rallying against Trump with a ferocity not seen since a certain Alaskan governor graced the national stage. Only it’s far more pronounced this time around.

Dear Conservatives, Trump ‘Is Playing You’

Consider Louis C.K.’s open letter over the weekend to both liberal and conservative voters. It’s raw and occasionally shocking, but the comedian’s anger at a possible Trump presidency is palpable.

Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s. Do you think they saw the shit coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.

The comic doesn’t push for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in the letter. To take him at face value, he says the country deserves a smart, consistent conservative president after eight years of Obama, if only for the sake of balance.

Just not Trump.

If you are a true conservative. Don’t vote for Trump. He is not one of you. He is one of him. Everything you have heard him say that you liked, if you look hard enough you will see that he one day said the exact opposite. He is playing you.

C.K. is trying to be gentle. And sincere. So was John Oliver when he let loose with this 21 minute rant (21 minutes!). Warning: The language is occasionally salty.

“SNL” isn’t being nearly so nice as Oliver and C.K. And here’s betting the show’s writers, who consistently hit Republicans harder than Democrats, couldn’t be happier about Trump’s rants.

They can pen 85-second sketches that not only slime Trump but Republicans in toto.

Trump made this possible.

  1. Meanwhile, the Democratic Party continues to pander to racial bigots like Al Sharpton, who foments race riots and once led KILL THE JEWS rallies in Jewish neighborhoods. All this after trying to frame 3 innocent white men for a bogus rape of a lying black teen and her conniving scheming mother looking to make $$$.

Are Democrats sure they want to play this game ?

  2. “Republicans use “coded” language to hide their hate. Their passion for Voter ID laws is flat-out racist. Criticizing President Barack Obama is based on race, not policy.”

Perfect example of Liberal propaganda that only ignorant voters believe. Because: they’re ignorant. Democrat Party = Stupid people’s party

    1. Same quote lost me as well. Democrats claim the Republicans use coded language but that doesn’t mean they do. Voter ID laws are not racist, they ensure only those who can legally vote can vote, a problem in many Democrat districts. Suggesting minorities are incapable of registering to vote and showing up with ID like everyone else is racist. Yet we hear the same crap over and over as if its true.
