George Clooney Takes Bold Stand Against Journalism

George Clooney isn’t a journalist, but he plays one on screen (and on stage).

The actor solidified his position as a director with 2005’s “Good Night, and Good Luck.” He also co-starred in the fact-based biopic about famed journalist Edward R. Murrow (David Strathairn).

Twenty years later, Clooney was old enough to play Murrow via the film’s Broadway adaptation.

Now, the “Jay Kelly” star is attacking actual journalist Bari Weiss, the Free Press founder in charge of CBS News’ makeover.

Why? Weiss personally paused a “60 Minutes” report critical of the Trump administration.

The details?

The report in question didn’t allow Team Trump to respond to the criticism within, even though several officials did just that on the record. Weiss also argued the report didn’t move the story forward, essentially repeating what other outlets have shared regarding Trump’s immigration maneuvers.

The report also came via a journalist known for her severe bias. For that, Clooney attacked her via the far-Left Variety.

“Bari Weiss is dismantling CBS News as we speak…am I worried about film studios? Sure. It’s my business, but my primary loyalty is to my country. I’m much more worried about how we inform ourselves and how we’re going to discern reality without a functioning press.”

Clooney hasn’t chimed in about other press problems in recent years, though, which cast his comments in a disturbing light.

The media covered up the fact that President Joe Biden was suffering from a dementia-like condition during his single term in office. CNN’s Jake Tapper co-authored a book that detailed Biden’s cognitive decline after previously covering up his sorry state and attacking those who suggested the truth.

Clooney didn’t complain about the media’s dereliction of duty over that egregious error, one of the worst media scandals in modern history. Not once.

And it gets worse.

Clooney saw Biden’s decline up close last year but kept quiet about it until Biden’s poll numbers drooped. Then, the actor penned a New York Times op-ed suggesting Biden step aside.

If only that were the only time Clooney looked away while the press behaved oh, so badly.

Breitbart News’ John Nolte has a running list of journalistic malpractice, one that has grown larger over the last 12 months. Some may quibble with an entry or two. Taken as a whole, it’s a shocking indictment of an industry that continues to self-implode.

It’s no wonder public trust in Legacy Media is so low. To paraphrase the late John Houseman, they eeeearned it.

Clooney can get away with his absurd attack on Weiss for a simple reason. Modern journalism is, by and large, both biased and corrupt. No reporter with access to Clooney will challenge him on his anti-Weiss attacks.

This reporter interviewed the star a time or two over years and found him to be smart, agreeable and kind. One wonders if that mood would sustain if pressed on his journalistic hot takes.
