The Italian import "Viva la Liberta" split American critics right down the middle.

The political comedy fared far better at the just-wrapped Starz Denver Film Festival.

“Viva la Liberta” earned Best Narrative Feature honors courtesy of the Starz People’s Choice Awards. Other films feted by the event’s attendees included “Capturing Grace” (Best Documentary Feature), “The Bravest, the Boldest” (Best Short Film) and “Save Me” (Best Music Video).

 

The festival’s juried award winners include:

“The Tribe” – The Krzysztof Kieślowski Award for Best Foreign Feature Film

“August Winds,” “Stations of the Cross”- Special Jury Award

“The Look of Silence” – The Maysles Brothers Award for Best Documentary Film

“The Midnight Swim” – The American Independent Award for Best Feature Film

The 37th Starz Denver Film Festival featured 252 films from 45 countries, with 16 titles being local Colorado productions. The 12-day event drew more than 55,000 film goers.
