Horror maestro says California fires should eclipse Hollywood's biggest night
Stephen King has an uneasy relationship with Hollywood.
The horror author’s works have inspired dozens of films. The quality veers from Oscar-winning fare (“Misery”) to dreck like endless “Children of the Corn” sequels. That short story spawned a franchise that refuses to die.
One clunker, “Maximum Overdrive,” is all his fault. King directed the 1986 dud.
Now, King is weighing in on this year’s Oscars race. Specifically, the author says the show shouldn’t go on. King said as much on BlueSky, the home for liberals who need a safe space from conservative points of view.
Not voting in the Oscars this year. IMHO they should cancel them. No glitz with Los Angeles on fire.
The author got plenty of pushback on the opinion. Here’s just one of many responses.
The city needs them – even if you don’t. They employ a lot of people and help to support and promote one of our biggest industries. Whining about the Oscars is doing the exact opposite of supporting our city.
So far, he’s holding firm.
I hear what you guys are saying about the Oscars, and how they’re a celebration of life, and the show must go on, blah-blah-blah, so-on-and-so-forth. It all makes a degree of sense, but to me it still feels like Nero fiddling while Rome burns. Or in this case, wearing fancy clothes while LA burns.

They didn’t stop the award shows when the east coast was getting demolished from hurricanes, so why do you care now? Oh, elitists are losing their work mansions…

Oscars, Does any one care?
Rome is definitely burning down. LA Olympic dreams disappearing. Who would want to visit Democrat mis-rule. The Oscars is more about foreign films than quality American films. We have nothing to be proud of. Diversity and Woke ruined the film industry. There so much mediocrity.
MAYBE ALL HIS BOOKS SHOULD BE PULLED OFF THE SHELVES ! BECAUSE NO ENTERTAINMENT IS ALLOWED, AS PER MR KING.
OF COURSE THE FIRES ARE TRAGIC, BUT THE WHOLE NATION WATCHES THESE EVENTS, NOT JUST CALIFORNIANS. DID I SEE
THAT SPORTS EVENTS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED ? NO. KING WANTS TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT EVENTS ARE ALLOWED TO GO ON.
