Marc Maron Denies Censorship, Gets Schooled by Feminist

Marc Maron wishes he could police the jokes you can and cannot tell.

His fellow Leftists can’t, at least not anymore. And he’s furious about it.

Maron once told all the naughty jokes that flashed across his mind. Later, he got “woke” and started attacking comedians who dared to flex their creative freedom.

“Fascists,” he cried, missing the irony in his statement.

More recently, Maron went on Howie Mandel’s podcast and raged against both President Donald Trump and comics who stared down Cancel Culture … and won.

That includes Joe Rogan, who did something even more unforgivable to Maron. Rogan endorsed Trump during the 2024 election cycle, as did other comedians who understood that woke censorship hailed from the Left.

Along the way, Maron denied that comedians lost their First Amendment rights on “Howie Mandel Does Stuff.” He also blamed comedians for policies they didn’t write or enact.

“You guys got the freedom you wanted,” he says of rebel comedians who are now thriving in the post-woke age. He’s particularly incensed about any joke targeting the trans community. “You can now say whatever you want. They’re defeated. Their rights have been denied. The policies that you guys encouraged with your stupid  material are now policy … we’ve lost a tremendous amount of democratic ideas and movements. … You wanna still keep kicking them?”

They’re jokes, Maron. Jokes. Not policy or violence.

There’s a difference.

Plus, he argues it wasn’t a lackluster Kamala Harris who doomed the Democrats last fall or a party that pretended a brain-addled president was “sharp as a tack.” It was Theo Von, Andrew Schulz and Rogan.

That’s funny. Just not the “ha-ha” variety.

When Mandel suggests he’s giving comics too much credit, Maron melts down more. He also denies that free speech took a hit during the woke era.

“‘We’re being censored.’ No, you’re not,” he argues to Mandel. “There’s no constitutional censorship issue with your free speech. You say things, there’s cultural pushback. I’m not saying it wasn’t pretty bad in terms of people getting canceled and stuff, and I agree that was an issue, but that’s a specific issue. To frame it as some sort of free speech problem was a misdirect … it was that people were getting cultural pushback … no one was being put in jail for saying anything.”

Actually, tell that to German and British citizens who are facing jail time for sharing the “wrong” views on social media.

The pushback Maron references came from a microscopically small group of Americans who, sadly, spooked major platforms and media outlets into doing their bidding. He also ignores The Twitter Files where the government directly interfered in speech.

Nature is healing in Trump 2.0 era. Maron and friends are hardest hit.

Maron’s rant drew some unexpected fire. Feminist/journalist Meghan Murphy challenged the podcaster on his arguments.

Murphy shared how she was banned from the old version of Twitter for “saying men aren’t women” several years ago. That’s not “cultural pushback,” that’s censorship, she argued.

Social media is the digital town hall in the 21st century. And the Left wants to censor as much speech as possible.

Murphy backs up that sentiment.

Because I tried and was banned, censored, protested, threatened, and vilified for doing so. This is part of the reason he is so well respected. Because he is willing to have conversations others won’t.

She’s not alone, of course. Conservatives were banned on Big Tech platforms Left and Right. Comedians saw their material deleted, too, even when the jokes in question didn’t stray away from the platform’s guidelines.

They targeted the “wrong” ideas.

Maron didn’t care about any of that. Now, when he cries “fascist” as easily as Dom Toretto drops the word, “family,” it means nothing.
