Hollywood Reporter Smears ‘Reagan’ Star Nick Searcy

Far-Left outlet lumps 'Justified' alum in with violent Jan. 6 protesters

You don’t need a journalism degree to spot the hard-Left bias at The Hollywood Reporter.

Consider this sampling of recent THR headlines.

Notice a pattern?

That matters, but given the corruption running through today’s corporate media it’s hardly shocking.

The outlet’s latest reportage, by comparison, is troubling.

THR attended the red-carpet premiere for “Reagan,” the anticipated biopic opening nationwide Aug. 30. Dennis Quaid plays the GOP icon in a star-studded affair alongside Jon Voight, Robert Davi, Kevin Sorbo, Penelope Ann Miller and Nick Searcy.

That group features some of the few openly conservative actors working today. Sorbo works outside the Hollywood system now because he’s a Christian conservative. Those thought crimes convinced progressives to shut him out of the industry.

That’s a Blacklist for another day.

Here’s how THR referred to Searcy, who plays Reagan’s Chief of Staff James Baker in the film.

Reagan actor Jon Voight, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, wore a silk tie that featured text from the Pledge of Allegiance. Conservative actor Nick Searcy, who participated in the Jan. 6 insurrection [emphasis added] and has been one of Trump’s most outspoken supporters, strolled the red carpet to chat up his role in Reagan. One of the reporters on the press line hailed from a Christian media company.

What proof does THR have that Searcy “participated” in Jan. 6?

Searcy has plenty of footage proving otherwise. He’s produced two films about that eventful day –
“Capitol Punishment” and “The War on Truth.” Each features videos showing him far outside the Capitol interviewing Trump supporters.

He approached the event like any good storyteller might.

Actor Nick Searcy: “The War on Truth”

There’s no footage of him entering the Capitol, let alone committing violence, in the film or elsewhere. He’s a famous actor with a recognizable mug.

If such video existed, he’d probably be sitting in jail right now.

Yet THR labeled the conservative actor an insurrectionist without evidence. No link. No corroborating information.

Searcy didn’t take the news quietly. He fired back via his Facebook page.

He shared the following response with Hollywood in Toto:

“This is a perfect example of media propagandists spreading the lie that January 6 was a dangerous “insurrection,” while simultaneously trying to send the message to the rest of Hollywood that opposing the Democrat party machine will make you a pariah. There is no reason for [THR journalist] Chris Gardner to accuse me of violence on J6 other than to try to hurt me professionally and to dance for his paymasters at THR, to show that he is a good and faithful servant to their god, the almighty Democrat party.

I made two-feature length documentaries about my “participation” in J6, which Gardner probably thinks was worse than 9/11, Hiroshima, and the Civil War combined, since that’s what they told him on MSNBC and in the THR cubicle where he toils. Since he, like most Democrats, wouldn’t dare watch my documentaries because they might disrupt the comfortable lies he has been fed, he has no idea what I — or anyone else, for that matter — actually did that day.”

It’s bad enough that Hollywood treats conservative stars worse than second-class citizens. Now, Hollywood press outlets freely attack conservative actors without evidence.

Searcy, to his credit, continues to work both in and out of Hollywood, Inc. despite openly embracing conservative values. He values free speech that much.

So should progressive actors.

Many of his right-leaning peers won’t speak up for fear of losing work. That threat is all too real. Searcy may have lost more than a few roles for that reason.

How Conservatives Can Make Great Movies with Nick Searcy

The actor remains a professional, collaborating with liberal actors on film and TV sets sans rancor. “Justified” showrunner Graham Yost clearly enjoyed working with Searcy on the long-running show. Yost penned the foreword to Searcy’s recent autobiography, “Justify This: A Career Without Compromise.”

The THR misinformation could make Searcy’s balancing act even more challenging moving forward.

UPDATE: THR did a stealth edit on the character attack. Here’s how it reads now with no editor’s note attached.
